I heard the Murnau story decades ago. It may be in Hollywood Babylon by Kenneth Anger. Just because Google doesn't have it doesn't mean it didn't happen. I find it unreliable. I've had disappointing results from Google nearly half the time I use it these days.

You find Google unreliable, yet you claim it's true because you "heard" about it

I hear ya.

Thanks for the link.
After reading it, I find it fairly hard to believe.
Nonetheless, thanks again for digging it up.

From that article: This tragic incident was predicted by a psychic in Los Angeles and told Murnau to be careful and never ever to ride in a car for this particular trip. Murnau listened at first, but changed his mind later – a choice which led to his death.

Sounds legit.

Yeah, there was some racism present in Lovecraft’s fiction, but if you’ve read his letters and other writings, he was particularly racist and antisemitic, and a Hitler apologist to boot. Though he had the good sense to die before WWII broke out in full and the full extent of the Third Reich’s crimes were exposed to the world. It’s also not difficult to see how the Aryan nonsense would appeal to Lovecraft’s sensibilities.

I think that the statue was changed not so much because of the content of Lovecraft’s stories, and such racism was not unique or uncommon in the pulp fiction of the time, but because of his gross personal beliefs which have been preserved because of his extensive letter-writing.

We tend to forgive artists for their indiscretions, crimes, and sins once they are dead, like Lewis Carroll, Ezra Pound, and Richard Wagner. And all indicators point toward Salvador Dali being a total piece of shit, too.

In the statue’s defense, it was designed by Gahan Wilson.

From the article:

Despite the fact that the Philippines has been producing films in Manila sine 1899, Filipinos were never heard of in America, let alone in Hollywood, during the 1930s.
A Filipino in America would not have been out of the ordinary in the 1930s. Fucking Spanish American War was like 30 years prior. America had been involved with the Philippines for a long time. The writer doesn’t know shit.

The Atlantic: Bryan Singer has been trailed by accusations of sexual misconduct for 20 years. Here, his alleged victims tell their stories.

The portrait of Singer that emerges is of a troubled man who surrounded himself with vulnerable teenage boys, many of them estranged from their families. Their accounts suggest that Singer didn’t act alone; he was aided by friends and associates who brought him young men. And he was abetted, in a less direct way, by an industry in which a record of producing hits confers immense power: Many of the sources we interviewed insisted, out of fear of damaging their own career, that we withhold their name, even as they expressed dismay at the behavior they’d witnessed.

The article isn't enough to trigger Hollywood to issue a persona non grata to Mr. Singer.
It's going to take a specific, and possibly future, event.

Nah... Singer is too high on the list. He probably has an immunity idol.

A fair number of the "known" events in Singer's timeline pre-date the big movement against these sleazebags, so while a "future event" would indeed be a more effective trigger, hopefully a steady stream of published stories like that one from The Atlantic will maintain the cloud hanging over him enough that he sorta becomes persona non grata anyway, as studios might start questioning whether each new project will come with a built in backlash that finally hurts the boxoffice.

I noticed on IMDb that he's "rumored" to be attached as producer on a future Alpha Flight film. Ugh.

If he did what is rumoured, he should be in prison.

Yeah, I don't understand how Singer's been able to get away with this shit for so long, especially since it's never been a big secret.

I will be pissed if NGC does not air Beyond Cosmos with Neil DeGrasse Tyson over some bogus harassment claims.

I don't know what they will do.
Not to say the guy is guilty of anything, but he is genuinely weird.

You say that as if its a bad thing. Neil Degrasse Tyson is an awkward dork, but he's also pretty awesome. Not everyone is as cool as Sam Jackson.

I guess that's one way of putting it.

Maybe that's the problem...

Two time Oscar-winner Kevin Spacey would like to have a word with you - in character as Frank Underwood.

If the Singer situation blows up like Spacey's did, he'll be forever banished too.
