Re: Decades of Sexual Harassment Accusations Against Harvey Weinstein (New York Times

Jennifer Lawrence shared a story of being treated poorly early on in her career at Monday night’s Elle Women in Hollywood Awards, adding her story to a growing narrative of actresses who have faced sexism in the industry.

“When I was much younger and starting out, I was told by the producers to lose 15 pounds in two weeks,” she said. “One girl before me had already been fired for not losing enough weight fast enough.”

“And during this time, a female producer had me do a nude lineup with five women who were much thinner than me, Lawrence continued. “And we all stood side-by-side with only pasties covering our privates. After that degrading and humiliating lineup, the female producer told me I should use the naked photos of myself as inspiration for my diet. The director of that film asked me if I would star in a porno as well as many other things that are too inappropriate to mention here.”

While the crowd gasped with sympathy, the X-Men star noted that she did try to speak up for herself. “I asked to speak to a producer about the unrealistic diet regime and he responded by telling me he didn’t know why everyone thought I was so fat. He thought I was perfectly f***able,” she revealed.

Lawrence noted that she, like many of her colleagues, was also too afraid to set boundaries during her early career days and that whenever she did, she was labeled as “difficult.”

She added that as her star power rose, so did her confidence in that department, however. “By the time I got Hunger Games, I could say no. I worked out every day, but I was damned if I was going to represent the idea that skeletal was a positive body image. What’s the difference between then and now? I became a ‘movie star.’ And when you’re a movie star, you have the power to say no. But every human being, no matter how successful they are, should have the power to be treated with respect because they are human,” she proclaimed before tearing up and running off the stage to give her girlfriends seated at her table a hug.

Lawrence was just one of the many presenters and award recipients who touched upon the current dialogue happening in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein situation. And she was just one of many who used their time at the podium to admit to being victims of inappropriate activity in the past.

Reese Witherspoon

“This has been a really hard week for women in Hollywood, for women all over the world, and a lot of situations and a lot of industries are forced to remember and relive a lot of ugly truths,” the Oscar winner said at the event held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. “I have my own experiences that have come back to me very vividly and I find it really hard to sleep, hard to think, hard to communicate a lot of the feelings that I’ve been having about anxiety, honest, the guilt for not speaking up earlier.”

“[I feel] true disgust at the director who assaulted me when I was 16 years old and anger at the agents and the producers who made me feel that silence was a condition of my employment,” she added.

“And I wish that I could tell you that was an isolated incident in my career, but sadly it wasn’t. I’ve had multiple experiences of harassment and sexual assault and I don’t speak about them very often.”

“But after hearing all the stories these past few days and hearing these brave women speak up tonight about things that we’re kind of told to sweep under the rug and not to talk about, it’s made me want to speak up and speak up loudly because I actually felt less alone this week than I have ever felt in my entire career.”

wonder who the director was, and for sure there are many young actresses that are being told to lose weight and become fuckable at this very moment

I was waiting to see what she would say because I was always suspicious of how she started getting all of these roles in the first place. I've never seen anything special about her acting ability.

Kristen Stewart:

“I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve saved makeup artists,” said Stewart, who read a quick blurb off her iPhone before diving into her teleprompter speech. “Because it trickles down to makeup artists, camera assistants, from DPs [directors of photography] that are like ‘Hey, babe.’”

“It happens on lesser scales too,” Stewart continued. “When I say ‘saved’, I mean [I’ve] momentarily been like ‘Hey. Don’t, f***er.’ And then they are embarrassed for one second and then it keeps going every single day.”

Regarding Resse Witherspoon:

I've got a prime contender: The director of S.F.W.

The film was released in January 1995 but it was filmed in 1993. It was one of those Gramercy films that got shelved and dumped.

Maybe The Burning Plain for J-Law...

I would've said Garden Party, but I don't see any female producers on that.

Here's Miramax biographer Peter Biskin interviewed.

http://www.slate.com/articles/news_a...legations.html

He basically confirmed that it's all true. He also admits he didn't write about it because it wasn't the story he wanted to tell. But he comes off like he's making excuses for himself.

Here's my master theory:

Disney, Miramax, and Weinstein could have killed that book. They could have stopped it. It's a confirmed fact that they offered Biskin a deal in order to get him to stop the book. They basicly said, "Hey, come make movies with us instead." I think he got away with publishing the book because he told them, "I've written the PG-13 version where you come off as the biggest asshole boss of all time, don't fight me on this or I'll write the R rated version where you come off as a sex criminal."

I've read that at one point she decided that she didn't want to work outside of Canada (can't remember the reason why, but yeah, the DOTD remake was shot in and around Toronto). I've always admired her, she is quite talented and does shit her own way.

Thanks for that. It was the central question I asked a couple of pages back in this thread :

Weird, as if they suppressed it for fear of getting sued or something. No way you could have extensively researched the Weinsteins and not come up with something, right?
Biskin's responses are pretty unsatisfying. I haven't read Easy Riders, but I did read STAR (the Warren Beatty Biography) and he certainly didn't shy away from the sexual history there (though that was sort of an authorized biography and dealt with nothing close to assault).

I never understand why women stay quiet after shit like this happens...

I have 3 girls and I have told them a bunch of times, never to put up with that shit and not to worry about losing a job/career. I would take care of them forever if I have too. But, I hope they never had to go through this even though I know it hard for women (especially good looking/smart ones). But have high self esteem and respect yourself because if you don't how to you expect others too.

Re: Decades of Sexual Harassment Accusations Against Harvey Weinstein (New York Times

That Bob Weinstein story sounds more like someone trying to get media attention. Asking someone out for months is not sexual harrasment, its pathetic. Nothing in her account sounds like its even close to the kind of shit Harvey was doing. And he gets angry at her in a meeting (thats out of her control she claims) so she blames it directly on her rejecting him.

Whilst i am sure a lot of these stories are true, i just get the feeling that we will hear from literally every actress and even if someone glanced at then one time they will make it sound more like sexual harassment. T

Because an up-and-coming actress is never going to be believed over Harvey Weinstein. Or it'll be blamed on what she was wearing or that she shouldn't be meeting him at a hotel (where lots of Hollywood meetings happen) or any number of stupid reasons. Easier to just stay quiet.

One of my Facebook friends was talking about this on her page and a guy jumped in and said that he had never done that to her. To which she replied that he had and it had made her uncomfortable. He started posting again and again asking for the exact dates and if it was a time when he did this or that and why didn't she say anything and that he respected her but she had the wrong idea and on and on and on. I got to watch this dude just dig himself deeper and deeper because he could never admit that he had done something wrong.

I can totally understand why many women just don't want to deal with it.

From Bjork's official FB page. This is her alleged experience with Director Lars von Trier.

To be fair...He has denied this.

1st post about it

i am inspired by the women everywhere who are speaking up online to tell about my experience with a danish director . because i come from a country that is one of the worlds place closest to equality between the sexes and at the time i came from position of strength in the music world with hard earned independence , it was extremely clear to me when i walked into the actresses profession that my humiliation and role as a lesser sexually harassed being was the norm and set in stone with the director and a staff of dozens who enabled it and encouraged it . i became aware of that it is a universal thing that a director can touch and harass his actresses at will and the institution of film allows it . when i turned the director down repeatedly he sulked and punished me and created for his team an impressive net of illusion where i was framed as the difficult one . because of my strength , my great team and because i had nothing to loose having no ambitions in the acting world , i walked away from it and recovered in a years time . i am worried though that other actresses working with the same man did not . the director was fully aware of this game and i am sure of that the film he made after was based on his experiences with me . because i was the first one that stood up to him and didn't let him get away with it

and in my opinion he had a more fair and meaningful relationship with his actresses after my confrontation so there is hope

let's hope this statement supports the actresses and actors all over

let's stop this

there is a wave of change in the world

kindness

björk

Follow up post

in the spirit of #metoo i would like to lend women around the world a hand with a more detailed description of my experience with a danish director . it feels extremely difficult to come out with something of this nature into the public , especially when immediately ridiculed by offenders . i fully sympathise with everyone who hesitates , even for years . but i feel it is the right time especially now when it could make a change . here comes a list of the encounters that i think count as sexual harassment :

1 after each take the director ran up to me and wrapped his arms around me for a long time in front of all crew or alone and stroked me sometimes for minutes against my wishes

2 when after 2 months of this i said he had to stop the touching , he exploded and broke a chair in front of everyone on set . like someone who has always been allowed to fondle his actresses . then we all got sent home .

3 during the whole filming process there were constant awkward paralysing unwanted whispered sexual offers from him with graphic descriptions , sometimes with his wife standing next to us .

4 while filming in sweden , he threatened to climb from his room´s balcony over to mine in the middle of the night with a clear sexual intention , while his wife was in the room next door . i escaped to my friends room . this was what finally woke me up to the severity of all this and made me stand my ground

5 fabricated stories in the press about me being difficult by his producer . this matches beautifully the weinstein methods and bullying . i have never eaten a shirt . not sure that is even possible .

6 i didnt comply or agree on being sexually harassed . that was then portrayed as me being difficult . if being difficult is standing up to being treated like that , i´ll own it .

hope

let´s break this curse

warmth

björk

I think as Males, though many do in fact get sexually abuse, most of us will NEVER be able to understand the paralyzing fear women often get when put into situations like this. Sure, it might seem as simple as "just have self esteem" but clearly it isn't.

I can understand when one actress feels powerless thinking there's nothing she can do and then not doing anything. I can understand a few of them passing the information among each other and still not doing anything.

But when it's known inside the industry by many women and men... many of which who have a lot of power in the industry - when pooled together can put up a good fight again Weinstein, Miramax and WTC... that it took this long I find disturbing. The fact that this came out now without any huge backing proves that it's inexcusable that it wasn't done earlier and with the help of the many big players who knew for years. It's no different than knowing about someone who molests kids and not doing anything about it - causing more abuse that didn't need to happen.

A lot women don't have self esteem enough to protest. A lot of women didn't have fathers like you who reassured them.

It all comes down to fathers. The one girl I know who was sexually assaulted several times by different boyfriends had a weird father. I don't think he sexually abused her, he was just a really weird guy.
