I'm surprised Knowles lasted this long - I didn't think he'd make it past the '90s, not just due to his poor health, but his shitty writing. Good riddance! This sort of toxic behavior will almost always catch up to you, especially if you're under a spotlight - now I just wish this would happen to Trump, and soon!

The only time I ever visited the website is when it was linked in a post here. I didn't care for the look of it.

I guess I had a chance to chat with him. I was at San Diego Comic-Con sitting at one of the round tables under the sails. He was sitting alone at an adjoining table. This was in the 90s and I kinda recognized him but really had no interest in saying hello.

I co-produced a no-budget horror movie about 10 years ago, and I met him at a few promotional conventions I went to (the director is a friend who's in the Texas movie scene), and my immediate impression of him was that he was an egotistical piece of shit - rude and thinking he's king shit of fuck mountain. No one liked him, except for what he could provide for them in terms of connections, promotion and screening attendance.

So what exactly made him the internet movie rock star he was? I never went to his site(I preferred dark horizons and jo blo) but he had people like Bruce Willis and Stallone there at one point, and it seemed like he was the face of critics for a new generation. I will say thought that I always thought he seemed like a douchebag just looking at him.

Harry and AICN has pretty much been living for the past 20 years on a reputation they built over the course of a couple years in the mid-90's. Those few years were sort of revolutionary and a progenitor of the abundance of online movie news options we have today, but aside from being influential at the beginning of the era, they have no contributed to it in any way since.

Similar history with the site as others - it was pretty good for prequel news in the late 90's, etc. I did check it out again when they were really pushing 'Rambo' and some other Stallone projects. And I do enjoy the Holiday Wishlist guides. But I wouldn't miss it if they closed up shop, which it sounds like they should.

Yeah, I think the prequels and LOTR had a lot to do with propeling Harry and AICN into the spotlight in the late 90s. He came along at just the right time.

I knew of the site but I never really went there much at all. I honestly wasn't even sure if it was still regularly updated.

I never used AICN. All I remember is that their articles uses to freeze up my PC for a few minutes while the page loaded with all of the comments. And I think that's the reason I stayed away from the site.

Good to see that it never really updated its layout. Flashback to early 2000's! Not that I read those dirtbags - but Druge oddly does the same thing (tons of clicks/value, but still looks like a Geocities site).

Also, I love keeping up on the film industry. Between Variety, and this place, I don't really see a need to look anywhere else.

I remember comingsoon.net was really great in the late 90's - getting details on projects in development. Lots of scoops and leaked info on there. By now, studios coordinate and want everyone to know what they're working on anyways. It's just not the same. Filmmakers posting on Twitter and whatnot.

I've been wondering what the hell has been going on at that website...Can't say I'm a frequent visitor, but good God do I hate whoever posts stuff and starts with "Hola Dannie aqui!"...Whoever the hell writes that garbage should never be writing posts...The whole schtick is annoying as hell...And I hate how the person always signs off with "Live Strong, Love Movies" or something like that...Feels like some junior high school student is writing the articles...And most of what the idiot writes has already been posted or written about on various other websites...

Say what you will, but back in the day aintitcool would occasionally break stories...Now they are a shell of their former selves...

Had no idea about what went on with Harry...But at least he is getting his comeuppance, it seems...

Ain't It Cool News founder Harry Knowles has been accused of sexual assault by former Alamo Drafthouse employee Jasmine Baker, Indiewire reported. Baker alleges the assaults took place in 1999 and 2000 at Alamo Drafthouse events.
"Harry Knowles groped me, opportunistically, on more than one occasion," Baker said, and the first time the alleged assault took place, Knowles "rubbed up against her buttocks and legs" and "on at least one occasion, she said he also put his hand under her shirt," Indiewire wrote. Knowles responded to Indiewire and Baker's claims saying: "I categorically deny it."
