One of my hang ups on this one may be that I haven't kept up with his more recent works or ever gotten into his short stories.

This is going to be a good game!

Re: The Sheepshank Redemption: Stephen King Movie Sheep Game

We have thirteen players. (How's that for an appropriate number?) Not a huge turn-out, but good enough for a game. Let's get started.

Re: The Sheepshank Redemption: Stephen King Movie Sheep Game

1. S: What is the all-time scariest movie based on a Stephen King work? (Note: “works” include anything King has ever written - novels, novellas, short stories, screenplays, etc.)

Of all the King movies, one clearly ranks as the scariest of all. But two others got teeny-tiny votes as well...

First, one player stands alone on the stage:
Spoiler:

devilshalo Carrie 0

Followed by three players who all float...
Spoiler:

Abob Teff It {sd} -6
Liver&Onions It -3
GhostLee It -3

But the sheepiest answer of all was that feel-good family movie:
Spoiler:

Crocker Jarmen The Shining {sd} -18
mwbmis The Shining {sd} -18
rbrown498 The Shining {sd} -18
DaveNinja The Shining - 9
wishbone The Shining - 9
Decker The Shining - 9
majorjoe 23 The Shining - 9
brainee The Shining - 9
Boba Fett The Shining - 9

Three players tie for first after the first round:
Spoiler:

Crocker Jarmen -18
mwbmis -18
rbrown498 -18
DaveNinja - 9
wishbone - 9
Decker - 9
majorjoe 23 - 9
brainee - 9
Boba Fett - 9
Abob Teff -6
Liver&Onions -3
GhostLee -3

Re: The Sheepshank Redemption: Stephen King Movie Sheep Game

2. S: Name a Stephen King movie that has been either remade or given a sequel. (Note: give the name of the original movie itself, not the sequel or remake.)

Every player got a match with this question!

First, a TV-remake of a cinema classic:
Spoiler:

GhostLee The Shining {sd} -4
wishbone The Shining -2

Next, the most heavily-sequeled movie in the King canon:
Spoiler:

Abob Teff Children of the Corn -2
Liver&Onions Children of the Corn -2

This next answer was a TV mini-series before it was a hit movie, but that didn't stop a few sheep from naming it anyway:
Spoiler:

majorjoe 23 It {sd} -6
DaveNinja It -3
Boba Fett IT -3

So the sheepiest answer is:
Spoiler:

brainee Carrie{sd} -12
mwbmis Carrie {sd} -12
Decker Carrie {sd} -12
Crocker Jarmen Carrie -6
devilshalo Carrie -6
rbrown498 Carrie -6

rbrown498 -24
brainee -21
Decker -21
majorjoe 23 -15
Boba Fett -12
DaveNinja -12
wishbone -11
Abob Teff -8
GhostLee -7
devilshalo -6

Re: The Sheepshank Redemption: Stephen King Movie Sheep Game

Boo on the sheep for not having more people match me for #2! It's a movie game. You shouldn't be thinking of tv answers (either for the original or the remake/sequel).

Only 13 players? That sucks More people posted in the recent "best and worst SK movie" thread. I know it's an issue of timing for the sheepmasters, but I think if these horror games were held off until October they'd have done better for participation.

Re: The Sheepshank Redemption: Stephen King Movie Sheep Game

3. R: A handful of Stephen King movies have received Oscar nominations. Name one of those movies, and the category it was nominated in.

Only two players are going to be happy about the results of this round. First, let's start with one unfortunate wrong answer:

Spoiler:

Boba Fett The Shawshank Redemption {SD} +7

Yes, the Shawshank Redemption in fact received SEVEN nominations. Unfortunately, Boba Fett failed to indicate a category. AND he slammed it. I believe this is called an Orange Crush?

This is followed by yet another unfortunate wrong answer:
Spoiler:

GhostLee Stand by Me, Best Picture +7

The Green Mile was nominated for four Academy Awards. Did any sheep pick a unique category?
Spoiler:

Not these two:
devilshalo The Green Mile - Best Adapted Screenplay +2
mwbmis The Green Mile - Best Screenplay +2

But this one did:
Spoiler:

Liver&Onions Green Mile, Best Picture -15

How about the only Stephen King movie to actually WIN an Academy Award?
Spoiler:

DaveNinja Misery, Best Actress +2
wishbone Misery, Best Actress +2

Now, for a huge herd of unhappy sheep:
Spoiler:

rbrown498 Carrie (Best Supporting Actress) +5
Abob Teff Carrie, Best Supporting Actress (Piper Laurie) +5
Crocker Jarmen Carrie Best Supporting Actress +5
brainee Carrie (Best Supporting Actress) +5
Decker Carrie - Best Supporting Actress +5

Which brings us to our final unique. As I said before, Shawshank was nominated in SEVEN categories. With Boba Fett's incorrect answer, that left all seven categories as a unique answer, which only one sheep submitted:
Spoiler:

majorjoe 23 The Shawshank Redemption, Best Adapted Screenplay -15

Spoiler:
Nope. Thanks to his unique, majorjoe jumps from #6 to the top spot.

majorjoe 23 -30
mwbmis -28
Liver&Onions -20
Crocker Jarmen -19
rbrown498 -19
brainee -16
Decker -16
DaveNinja -10
wishbone -9
Boba Fett -5
devilshalo -4
Abob Teff -3
GhostLee 0

No, an orangecrush is when you slam a correct unique, thus negating your score.

We don't have a name for slamming an incorrect reverse answer. I guess it's now a Boba Fett?

Jesus, Piper Laurie is this game's Aunt Beru Kicking myself for thinking SS was going to be a popular answer.

I was debating between this and Michael Clarke Duncan's nom for Green Mile. I chose poorly

Re: The Sheepshank Redemption: Stephen King Movie Sheep Game

4. S: What is the all-time worst movie based on a Stephen King work?

Wow, there are a lot of SUCKY Stephen King movies, as evidenced by the lack of consensus, not a single slam played, and FIVE of our players submitting unique answers.

Spoiler:

DaveNinja dreamcatcher 0

Spoiler:

rbrown498 Night Shift 0
I think rbrown498 meant Graveyard Shift, but regardless...

Spoiler:

wishbone Sleepwalkers 0

Spoiler:

Decker Children of the Corn 0
(It can't be that bad. Look at all the sequels!)

Finally... too soon?
Spoiler:

Liver&Onions The Dark Tower 0

Wrong answers are +2 over the most common correct answer. So shouldn't Boba Fett and GhostLee get +7, not +6 (since Piper Laurie answer was +5)?
