Maybe you're right. It's been at least 20 years since I read the book. Still, if the explanation isn't in the movie itself, it's a failure of the screenplay.

Not really - Chapter 2 can still clear a lot of things up - I have a feeling this will be the case as well.

Yeah, that is definitely one of the things I do remember from the book.

Well, looks like there will not be an extended cut released on BD

I'm guessing there will be an eventual double dip down the line.

Wouldn't surprise me to see a double feature SE released after the second one comes out.

I found it (It) awful. Hokey and maudlin in the worst Spielbergian sense, far too long, and just boring. It's a horror film for kids, yet with lots of profanity spoken by the child actors and a modicum of gore, but no good scares. Period flavour was fair, but could have been better with some contemporary music selections. There were no obvious anachronisms, except for the kids riding around on bikes from the '50s rather than dirt bikes or mountain bikes.
The clown was well-acted and had impressive makeup effects, but I just don't find the character frightening or interesting. The best actor of the kids was the fat kid, I thought. The other kids ranged from OK to poor during "emotional" scenes. I'm clearly in the minority, but this ersatz horror flick was just not for me.

Thanks, musick. But I'm all alone with my 1 star. I stand by it, damn it! There was something distinctly artificial and wussy about the film that bothered me.

It was fine I guess. Wasn't at all scared though it was creepy at times, however that's kind of built-in when you have a clown anyway. IDK, kind of shrugged at the end and probably won't think about this again until the sequel.

There are times when I just don't get things. This is one of those times. I have no idea what everyone saw in this movie. IT was no better than your average direct to video horror movie. Almost every horror cliche was there. I did not read the book that could be part of the problem. I do not plan to.
Shocked and I mean shocked at all the praise and box office this movie generated. I was pretty much bored with it. The ending was beyond horrible. I promise you I am not being contrarian because I love horror movies. I just didn't find IT enjoyable. It could be because I had just finished watching Stranger Things a while back and this felt close to that somewhat. Even worse I blind bought this something I hardly ever do anymore. My son liked it so he can have IT.
1.5 out of 5 stars.

You said you didn't read the book; have you seen the original mini-series?

Bums me out because everyone I know likes it. I hope I am not becoming THAT guy!
Since my son now has the movie I may revisit the movie sometime.

Saw this over the weekend, it was really good. The 80s theme an atmosphere was perfect, it almost feels like from the same people that made Stranger Things.
I think as time passes by, the 80s will be remembered from movies like this and Goonies, IT, ET. It would feel as if fantasy and monsters were real in the 80s.

I think your rating is a little low, but the film is definitely overrated and received a lot of praise that wasn't really justified.

Re: Stephen King's IT (2017, D: Andr้s Muschietti)
I realize I am late on this, but I watched this last night for the first time, and it was one of my favorite films of the past year.
Definitely my favorite "horror" film of the last 5 years.

No review thread for this?
I watched it last night and really liked this! I was hesitant due to Fukunaga drama and being replaced by Muschietti for what I was afraid was a more traditional approach but I loved everything about it. All the child actors hit it out of the park and Finn Wolfhard had some great one liners.
I’m really looking for to Chapter 2.
I’m also looking forward to see an extended cut of Chapter 1 if it’s ever released.

Thanks. I searched for “Stephen King It” figuring just “It” was too short for a search.
