^^^ While a big factor I'm sure, if that were solely it, he would've been Doctor Strange.

Well at least there’s no face tattoos or grill.. I think this still feels unnecessary but it might end up somewhat interesting depending on where they go with it.

At least there is that.

Looking at the pic below, I'm getting a bad feeling about this.

Re: Joker (2019, D: Todd Phillips) -- S: Joaquin Phoenix

Well, style wise the movie does take place in like the early 80s, plus it's pre-Joker. There was a video of a scene being filmed (which is why they released these photos), think he as being kicked out of some kind of a club.

Anyway, I had doubts about this movie before, but actually kind of interested.

Edit, found this image as well:

The thing is there’s not much to really judge. Right now it just looks like Joaquin Phoenix. So I can’t really say if it’s bad or good.

One thing I will say I like is the fact that this seems like it could be using The Killing Joke as at least somewhat of a basis for his origin. I’m just curious what they’re going to do to pad out the story beyond that aspect, because really that shouldn’t take up more than a half hour or so to tell the origin.

They can pad it out with a terrible romance between Batgirl and Batman.

I actually didn’t have a problem with the animated adaptation like most did. For the most part the film follows the story aside from that added subplot.

The difference there though is that the animated movie was only an hour and sixteen minutes. I imagine this will be closer to two hours at least. Plus they haven’t made any mention of Batman or other characters being in it. I’m sure they’ll almost have to add in a lot of filler pre-Joker.

I don't need nor want a Joker origin story.

No one has wanted one for decades.

I don’t really want one either but if they are doing it I wouldn’t mind something inspired by The Killing Joke. I get the vibe that’s what this will be but probably with a twist. I don’t know I’m open to this but cautiously optimistic about any DC films. My biggest thing is I don’t want it to be something where we get a lot of pre-Joker backstory in hopes of making him a more sympathetic character or something.

Does anyone think Bats well get worked into this at all? Even if it is just a stuntman in the suit?

Which seems to be the case with any villain origin story (ie. Vader, Hannibal, etc.)

...cautiously pessimistic?

I forget if it was someone here that mentioned it, but the idea of multiple Joker actors and Joker origins scattered across the DCEU to simulate all the different stories about his past would be kind of interesting to me. But I don't think WB/DC is that creative, and probably too weird of a concept for casual movie goers.

I have no predictions on how this will shake out, but just the idea of a Killing Joke adaptation with Joaquin Phoenix as The Joker sounds pretty damn appealing to me. That said, I think they would probably need to have a firmer grasp on who's playing this universe's Batman if they were going in that direction.

It’s stuff like adding in Thomas Wayne that I don’t like. As I mentioned earlier that to me makes it seem like they’re somehow going to tie the Wayne’s into Joker’s origin somehow which I’d rather that not be the case.

It was ok in Burton's Batman.

Could be that they're going to create dueling flashback scenes that parallel Bruce's psychological "breaking point" to that of the Joker.
