re: Joker (2019, D: Todd Phillips) -- S: Joaquin Phoenix

Not sure how that refutes what I said. I believe Warner is just throwing him a bone to appease him (he's not pleased the Phoenix Joker movie is happening) until they figure out what to do with him and his Joker.

And to reiterate, no a Leto Joker movie will not happen. Maybe he'll make an appearance in Suicide Squad 2 or Birds of Prey (or Harley Quinn movie if that one ever happens; doubtful), but his own movie? Nope.

Have you seen YWNRH? His look is anything but hipster. That style in the film is not hipster. FYI

I was just throwing it out there. I doubt they're gonna give him facial hair anyway. Maybe in a flashback or if they explore points in his life, etc.

JULY 19, 2018 4:33pm PT by Borys Kit
'Joker' Movie: 'Deadpool 2' Actress Zazie Beetz in Talks to Join Joaquin Phoenix (Exclusive)
The 'Atlanta' actress is in talks to join the standalone origin movie from Todd Phillips.

Zazie Beetz is moving from absurd superheroics to a supervillain character drama.

The actress, who co-starred in Deadpool 2, is in talks to join Joaquin Phoenix in Joker, the standalone origin project from Warner Bros. and The Hangover helmer Todd Phillips.

Phoenix is portraying the DC Comics villain in a movie that is more moderately budgeted and darker than the studio’s other DC-based movies, known as the DC Cinematic Universe. The movie is also described as more a dark character study than a crime thriller, with Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy as the tonal watchwords.

While details of the Phillips and Scott Silver-penned script are being kept under wraps, if a deal makes, Beetz would play a single mother who catches the interest of the man who will become the Clown Prince of Crime.

Joker is due to begin shooting September in New York. The studio has set an Oct. 4, 2019 release date.

Beetz gained notices for her breakout work in FX’s Donald Glover show, Atlanta. The show trampolined her into high-profile movie roles, including the Deadpool sequel and Fox Searchlight’s Noah Hawley drama that stars Natalie Portman. She also has Steven Soderbergh’s High Flying Bird in post.

Beetz is repped by Gersh.

Take as a grain of salt until some other more legit site says, but supposedly Robert De Niro has joined the cast:

Today, I can let you know that those old rumors about Robert De Niro being considered for a role in Joker are no longer rumors. They’re fact. He’s in the film.

And no, he won’t be playing Carmine Falcone as some had assumed.

I agree with Mark Bernardin on the prospect of a Joker movie.

Robert De Niro in Talks to Join Joaquin Phoenix in Joker Movie (Exclusive)

If a deal is made, De Niro would play a talk show host who is somehow instrumental in the Jokerís origin.

I wonder if they're gonna go with Patton Oswald's theory that he was some sort of special forces operative.

That was the Joker in Nolan's Dark Knight.

Yep. According to The Wrap, Frances McDormand was originally offered but she passed. Honestly, looking at Conroy, she looks scary, so I can buy it. I just hope they don't go down the abused childhood path...

Re: Joker (2019, D: Todd Phillips) -- S: Joaquin Phoenix

With his Emmy-nominated series “Glow” wrapping up its second season, Marc Maron has found the project to keep him busy during the show’s hiatus.

Sources tell Variety that Maron is in talks to join Joaquin Phoenix in Todd Phillips’ untitled Joker origin movie.

Besides Phoenix, Maron will be joining previously announced cast members Robert De Niro and Frances Conroy.

According to sources, Maron would be portraying an agent on Robert De Niro’s talk show who plays a part in booking Phoenix’s character, and eventually causing him to go mad and become the Clown Prince of Crime.

Phillips will co-write and direct the Warner Bros. movie, which is set to bow on Oct. 4, 2019.

Insiders stress that Jared Leto, who starred as the Joker in “Suicide Squad,” is still on board to portray the character in the DC Universe and that this Phoenix pic has no effect on what happens with Leto’s character in future DC films. Leto will star in his own standalone Joker movie.

Maron was most recently seen as television director Sam Sylvia on the Netflix comedy “Glow,” earning the actor some of the best reviews of his career. He is repped by ICM Partners and Avalon Management.

If I'd never heard his podcast, and the accompanying hype around how 'good' it is, I'd probably like Marc Maron a lot more. As it is, I think he's fine as an actor, but man I really dislike his podcast a whole lot, and that impacts my overall impression of him for whatever reason. I'm glad to see him turn up in more stuff, though.

He was always a pretty solid stand-up. I haven't kept up with his podcast though. Listened to a few early on. They were fine.
