Saw the leaked footage too. Damn is all I can say.

Spoiler:
I know it’s The Joker, but maybe a bit more fucked up than I really care to see. I’ll have to see the movie to really determine I guess. It comes off a bit weird to me especially in the DeNiro clip. Like he wants sympathy, but he’s okay being crazy and doing fucked up things. Not sure how that’ll come across in the film.

thats the beauty of his character. He is an unpredictable character. You dont know what to expect. That clip with DeNiro shows his madness. It shows that he is evil no matter what. Sure he will be coming out as wanting sympathy but his actions tell a different story.

Spoiler:
Eh I guess. Thing is though Joker usually unpredictable I agree, but the difference to me here is that the whole film kind of seems centered around his descent into madness and it looks like the film wants us to emphasize with Arthur. I think a character study of him doesn’t really work so well when an entire film we’re supposed to sympathize with him (at least that’s how it seems to a degree in the trailers) only to climax in a way where he’s giving his big spiel only to do what he does on the talk show. I think it would be better to have him in full blown Joker mode at that point. Not toying with people and wanting them to feel sorry for him, but just holding up the show or something. I guess we’ll see how it plays out.

Spoiler:
i get what you are saying but joker is crazy. He is a mad man. what he does on the talk show explains why he is a madman. so i am supposed to sympathize with a person who got laughed at for his jokes. he kills someone in cold blood on tv and now i am going to feel Deniros character deserves it. Nope he is a madman. He handled it in an evil way. The Joker way. Every iteration of the guy had the take on him. ledger had a person who wanted to watch the world burn. Burton's is a jokey fun version. This joker looks like a deranged looney who was pushed to the button because others pushed him. He was a bomb waitng to be lit. and they did the lighting

The trailers leave me with the impression this isn't about the Batman's JOKER, but about the disintegration of the psyche of someone, somewhere else...outside the Bat Universe as it were.
As a fan of both, I will be renting this to see what Philips and Phoenix did actually come up with.

Yeah, I mean this is based on the character but looks to be very loosely based on anything from the comics. It looks pretty good but I pretty much have completely detached myself from thinking it’s in anything that resembles the typical Batman universe. If anything it would be like an Elseworlds tale.

Re: Joker (2019, D: Todd Phillips) -- S: Joaquin Phoenix

damn saw the clip and goddammit

Spoiler:

That was rough. It felt very real. Not like a comic book villain but a real demented killer
As if i'm watching real murder happen, without been fictionalized. Dry, humorless, just empty

I see that ArcLight theaters will have it in 35mm, but of this was shot in 4K, won't that just mean it's a blowup? I think the Hollywood ArcLight is showing it in 70mm in the Dome.

With all of this concern over a movie, the media better stop putting out this negative vibe before someone takes these ideas and runs with them.

Rambo doesn't seem to be a hero for the incel community, though.

Another reason not to go.

https://www.kvue.com/article/news/ve...a-0026d1028164

Here is what the memo reads in its entirety:

1. The Fort Sill CID Office received an intelligence bulletin regarding a credible potential mass shooting to occur at an unknown movie theater during the release of the new Joker movie scheduled on October 4, 2019. The intelligence bulletin was published by Travis County, TX Sheriff's Office and working with the local FBI office, they have discovered disturbing and very specific chatter in the dark web regarding the targeting of an unknown movie theater during the Joker release.

2. This notice is to have the widest dissemination to the FSOK community as a potential threat within the AOR. Commanders need to be aware of this threat for Soldier and family safety and to increase situational awareness should they choose to attend the release of this movie at a local theater.

3. The Fort Sill CID Office will maintain visibility of this intelligence and update the FSOK community as new information becomes available.

4. Point of Contact for this report is the undersigned at (580)442-2856 or email: [email protected].

Hardly likely that an incel inspired by JOKER to shoot up a theater would choose a screening of JOKER filled with other incels in the audience. More likely they'd go into the nearest theater showing a rom-com or "female empowerment" movie like HUSTLERS.

It all seems like a bit much. Most of the baddies mentioned in articles about this have a cool factor to them. I could see them inspiring copycats. Pheonix's just looks like a schlubby loser that loses it, and I'm personally doubtful of how much of that will rub off.
