All-time favorite foreign film (The All Subtitles Edition)?

we've had favorites threads. one started awhile ago, but what is your #1 all-time fav?

as much as I adore Amélie, i'll have to go with my namesake. it's just one of those movies that makes an indelible impression way after. can't say i've seen it a bunch of times bc it is a tough film, but it is just so great...

too hard to pick just one since its essentially asking what your favorite movie ever is, so i'll just modify and say my favorite of 2016:

I agree. Not one really stands out. This is my most recent favorite foreign film. It's from a few years ago but I just saw it this year.

Yes, impossible for me to pick a favorite.

In last month's Sci-Fi/Fantasy challenge I was on a bit of a Sion Sono kick. And my favorite film of his is:

Salvation is in English -- sure, there are accents and moments of foreign language speaking parts, but I don't think this one qualifies as a "foreign" film per se.

Everything about this film is foreign except the subject matter. It wasn't even filmed in the U.S. Nor is anyone involved in it is from the U.S. except for one person.

Thread title probably should've been "foreign language" like the Oscars.

Cinema Paradiso.

Shows that the language of cinema is universal.

The recent Criterion is a revelation. The film has never looked so good.

Good call. That might be my number one Shaw picture (and I've got about 200.)

But for my all-time number one, I'd probably have to go with:
