A more recent one - Pride and Prejudice and Zombies - 43% on RT.

I thought it would be cheesy and dumb but I ended up really enjoying it. And my wife loves zombie movies and movies like Pride and Prejudice so this one was a home run.

Drop Dead Fred, Assassins, The (non-MCU) Avengers. Lots of good movies getting posted in here.

I didn't watch Pride, Prejudice, and Zombies yet. Surprised it hasn't shown up on Amazon or Netflix.

Good choice. Not at all the comic book Man-Thing, but a good little B picture.

Best Punisher film imho.

One of the best films that year.

Any Given Sunday. Love the look into the modern football players and coaches and it has a stinger in the credits way before Marvel started doing it. lol

Very underrated. Really captures the brutality of the sport.

I'll add another more "recent" Oliver Stone flick, Savages.

Liking this movie definitely requires a love of cheesy 80s trademarks (synth music, style over substance, etc.). Fortunately, I have that love. I actually got the old soundtrack on vinyl for $4. I truly do wish there was a way to get the version of Moroder's "Leopard Tree Dream" used below. (ST no got it )

Pure cocaine fueled 80s filmmaking at its best (or worst )

I loved Moroder's score, and was surprised to hear "Putting Out Fire (with gasoline) turn up in "Inglourius Basterds" and now "Atomic Blonde". I have it on cassette somewhere in the house.

Someone mentioned "The Butterfly Effect". I really enjoyed the unrated, R-rated or alternate version which is incredibly creepy and dark and extremely different from the more optimistic theatrical version.
Spoiler:
As I recall, Kutcher's character figures out the only sure way to stop everything from further spiraling out of control is to strangle himself in the womb.

Re: Critically Panned Movies You Kinda Dug

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas only scored a 49% , needless to say I don't agree with that consensus (and I'm curious how many critics now have the same opinion).

FWIW, the movie wound up grossing $100 million anyway. After the initial wave of bad press, Cruise and Crowe hit the promotional rounds again explaining what they were going for (a "cover" of the original Spanish "Abre los Ojos" so to say) and more people became receptive to it. At least that's what I recall.

Fear and Loathing was despised upon release. It's premiere at Cannes earned it the lowest critic scores in the history of the festival. Lowest ever!

I don't agree with it either, Depp and De Toro are brilliant in it.

Re: Critically Panned Movies You Kinda Dug

Some movies are just dumb fun and professional critics can't tolerate rating something like Daredevil as enjoyable.

A lot of enjoyable movies have been mentioned in this thread if you don't take every movie as serious business designed to win Oscars.

I don't think we can go by Rotten Tomatoes, or the bulk of my childhood favorites would belong here. The animated Transformers the Movie, for instance, is 55%. I mean it is a glorified toy commercial but cmon now, that's a classic. Some critics even lambasted the soundtrack.

I will chime in hear on Fear and Loathing - I do love and cherish this movie. Greatly overlooked or mistaken by many.

Yeah cause most criticism of films is meant for adults by other adult. A good example if all the crappy Adam Sandler movies the last decade or so. Jack and Jill might be a crap sandwich to anyone who was over 16 when it came out but play that for an 8 year old and it's funny as *uck for them.

The Strangers. It falls for several typical horror tropes (which is why it was poorly reviewed), but I love the atmosphere and tension it still manages to build, regardless of a handful of eye-rolling character decisions.

Jonah Hex is indefensibly bad but the other two aren't bad pulp superhero movies at all. I think both suffer from too much leftover Tim Burton influence from the first Batman movie.

I don't think many comic book fans of Daredevil tolerate rating it enjoyable either. And often, you have to cite the director's cut to "appreciate" it.

The Adventures of Ford Fairlane- critics hated it but I laughed all the way through it.
