How loud do you laugh in a movie theater?

Scale of 1-10, with 1 being nearly silent and 10 being the most loud and obnoxious.

4, I don't think I would ever be thought of as obnoxious.

A good 8 if it's actually funny. But I don't laugh easily. Something has to really get me.

Not too many movies made me laugh lately. Mostly TV and Netflix shows.

Maybe a 4/5...people who laughs too loud cause others to miss dialogue, and I hate when that happens.

If nobody else is laughing and I think it's funny, I laugh louder to compensate. This happens a lot at New York theaters. Nobody laughs anymore. But when everybody else laughs, I usually don't.

Re: How loud do you laugh in a movie theater?

The last movie to really make me laugh at the level of 10 was the boxing ring nut-punch sequence in Bad Santa.

Any other time I've barely gone above a 3 or a 4.

I'm annoyed by a certain type of audience member, mostly confined to the art cinema, who laughs raucously at any moment that's a little odd or offbeat, presumably to make sure everyone in the theatre knows they "got it". I endured a showing of Lars and the Real Girl with some nit-wit who felt the need to perform a big laugh every time the doll was on-screen.

Loudest laughs I've heard in a theater were the "Shhh!" librarian ghost in Ghostbusters, Large Marge's face in Pee-wee's Big Adventure, and the "hair gel" scene in There's Something About Mary.

Re: How loud do you laugh in a movie theater?

I rarely laugh out loud. It has to be a really good and unexpected joke or stunt for that. I usually just chuckle.

I do hate obnoxious laughers though. Really loud or someone who laughs at everything that could be remotely considered funny. It ruins the viewing experience for me.

That being said, I remember falling out of my seat and holding my sides due to laughter during various moments of Team America: World Police back in 2004.

I laughed my ass off during Space balls opening screen and through out the movie. But never too loud. =)

Re: How loud do you laugh in a movie theater?

Anyone who consistently laughs above a 5 or 6 is just trying to be "that guy" at the theater. Don't be that guy.

That being said, the hardest I've ever laughed at the theater was probably a 7 or 8 at the "Marvin" scene in Pulp Fiction. I'm not sure what that says about me as a human being...

Re: How loud do you laugh in a movie theater?

Here's a second question: what are the most recent movies that made you laugh out loud?

I know I laughed a few times during some Marvel movies.

Ditto. Even if I lol, it's not very loud.

I hate this, too, and it's part of what lead me to set up this poll. This seems to be the worst at classic film screenings, particularly if something is a bit dated. It is really annoying when you're watching, say, a dramatic film from the 50s and people are laughing out loud because they find it corny. But it happens at all types of movies, where something that should garner a chuckle or a smile at best gets loud hoots. Of course, who am I to say...

I'm sure most loud laughers can't help themselves. Especially ones with really embarrassing laughs. But nonetheless I do find it incredibly annoying sometimes.

The ones you speak of seem to have some sense of control, since they laugh extra loud to make it known that they get a reference.

Borat and Black Dynamite

Yeah it's been that long since I've considered any movie "funny."

BRIDESMAIDS was the last movie I laughed out loud at.

I forgot that there were some moments in Keanu and Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping that were hilarious even though overall I found both those films to be average and watched them at home.

Then there's the "Jeffrey Dahmer/sex slave" conversation in Get Out.

Re: How loud do you laugh in a movie theater?

I watched Borat in the theater and there were about four people in there. I hit ten during parts of it and almost started rolling on the floor.
