Yeah, because what I do is so much worse than calling people who don't like a particular filmaker "haters" even if they have legitimate complaints. Might as well go full troll and have some fun.

Actually what you do is much worse.

And as far as "legitimate complaints" go they've already been disproven. Good on you for admitting that you do troll.

How exactly do you disprove something that another finds wrong with a film?

OK , here is your chance, the ferry boat scene in TDK is fucking stupid, prove me wrong.

^ But that statement is in no way an argument. It’s the very definition of trolling.

To make a proper argument your premise needs some sort of support. You don’t support your opinion in any way. You’re a troll.

So the ferry scene makes DK a garbage film? That's like me saying that Dunkirk is a garbage film, because there was no bloody carnage throughout the film. No, the lack of carnage in Dunkirk does not make the film, as a whole, garbage. Neither does the ferry scene in DK.

But I'm sure you have many of these type of complaints in ALL of Nolan's films, though, right?

I voiced my problems with The Dark Knight when it was first released and was called a troll and hater and was told I just didn't get it like it was some brilliant puzzle that needed to be decoded. I enjoyed Batman Begins and couldn't wait for the sequel after the last shot of that film. I even saw The Dark Knight on opening day twice because I was so underwhelmed on the first viewing I decided to go back to see if I missed something. Then the same thing with Inception but by then the Nolan fanboys were really insufferable, you couldn't even criticize any part of the film without being attacked. Then the Dark Knight Rises comes out and people actually sent death threats to critics who dared not jerk off to the film.

Yeah, fanboys are annoying. Welcome to the internet.

But what’s more annoying that a fanboy is a troll. At least fanboys defend their position.

And if you think Nolan fanboys are bad you might want to stay out of a Star Wars or DC thread. If you’re that sensitive to a few Nolan fans those other fanboys may damn well cripple you.

And The Dark Knight was 10 years ago. Let that shit go, man.

Oops.

Anyway, saw this today recovering at home from a root canal and really enjoyed it. I wish I was able to see it in IMAX. I can see why a lot of people would be turned off by the lack of character depth and traditional plot elements, but the focus on the actual events and war elements worked for me. While I had similar issues telling some characters apart, I didn't have any issues with the way the movie was split in to 3 scenarios and following them.

There's a lot of Nolan movies I prefer over this, but it was a darn fine movie.

What it must be like to crave the attention and glean satisfaction from being known as "the messageboard guy who hates Christopher Nolan", as if it were some sort of status symbol or an accomplishment of some kind.

Caught this on redbox this weekend, I liked it, the dogfight scenes were great, solid war flick, 3/5 for me.

Re: Dunkirk (Nolan, 2017) The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

Gave this a watch last night.
A good movie, but I didn't enjoy it much.

It's hard for me to be a fan of Nolan.
His non-linear storytelling comes across as a gimmick more than anything else.
I sometimes found myself unsure of which subplot was on the screen at times.

Why do today's filmmakers insist on shining the light upon themselves instead of their work?
(Yeah, I'm talking about you JJ Abrams and your ridiculous lens flare)
Nolan has talent...unfortunately, his "look at me, look at me!" shtick often obscures it.

Re: Dunkirk (Nolan, 2017) The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

Went into this one completely blind, which I’m trying to do more often. Wasn’t surprised to see at the end that it was a Nolan film. I generally like his films, and this may be my favorite. The sparse dialogue and non-typical character development somehow made it all the better for me in those departments. Sound and music were stellar.

Perhaps this is a weak year for best picture nominees, but I’d feel this one belongs in any year it was made.

I won't mind if this wins Best Picture tomorrow but I'd rather that prize go to The Shape of Water or Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Haven't seen Phantom Thread or The Post, though.

I haven't seen the movie and I wonder if you have examples of what you mean.

My takeaway from this is it's a film about dignity, humility, leadership, and selflessness in time of war.

I think he means that Nolan has to throw in a time-twisty gimmick to separate himself from the rest of the pack. In Dunkirk's case, there are three separate storylines that exist in slightly different time periods during the evacuation. The movie constantly jumps backwards and forwards in time as we change storylines.
