Reverse Sheep, Part Two, the Sequel: Electric Boogaloo

Reverse Sheep, Part Two, the Sequel: Electric Boogaloo

http://az616578.vo.msecnd.net/files/...he-Sequels.jpg

The basic rules:
Intro for first time players
Spoiler:
(Reverse) Sheep is a game that is part Family Feud, part trivia game. The object of the game is to outwit other players through a series of questions that are usually united in theme. There are two types of questions.

The first, Sheep, is one where you try to think like everyone else and match their answers. The more people you match, the better you do. Let's say we have a game of six players (A through F). A Sheep question might be something like "Name a great color." Sheep questions never have right or wrong answers. Let's say our five players answered like this:

Players A, C, and E said "Blue"
Players B and D said "Green"
Player F said "Chartreuse"

Scoring in Sheep games is like golf: the lower your score, the better. The "Blue" players get -3 points (and the best answer). The "Green" players get -2 points. Player F did not match anyone and gets 0 points.

The second type of question, Reverse Sheep, is the exact opposite. You want to avoid matching other players. A Reverse Sheep question might be something like "Name a state on the Atlantic Coast." Reverse Sheep questions always have right or wrong answers. Let's say our players answered like this:

Players D and E said "Delaware"
Players F and B said "Maine"
Player C said "Texas"
Player A said "South Carolina"

The "Delaware" players get +2 points (a penalty, since you want to have a low score). The "Maine" players also get +2 points. Player C's answer might be debated among the players to see if it is considered correct or not. Wrong answers always score above the most common answer. You're always better off going for something obvious than for something obviously wrong.

That's the gist of it. Each person running a game adds little rules here and there but those are the basics.

General Rules
Spoiler:
The object of the game is to out-think everyone by picking answers to questions that are the most common (<FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #F9DF00">Sheep</FONT>) or least common (<FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #A3D867">Reverse Sheep</FONT>), but still correct.
Example <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #F9DF00">Sheep</FONT> question: "Name a professional golfer." A good answer might be Tiger Woods and a bad answer might be Chichi Rodriguez.
Example <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #A3D867">Reverse Sheep</FONT> question: "Name a play by Shakespeare." Romeo & Juliet might be a bad answer, but Two Gentlemen of Verona might be a good answer. (Unless everyone is trying to go as obscure as possible).
Scores are tallied according to the number of players answering that question. Sheep answers are tallied as negative. Reverse Sheep answers are tallied as positive. The lowest score wins.
There is no such thing as wrong answer for a Sheep question.
Wrong answers in Reverse Sheep are scored two points above the most common answer.
EXCEPT WHERE DESIGNATED, you may not cheat by using Google, Wikipedia, etc. Use only what's in your head.
Please send in your answers to me via PM. Place only one answer per line, without numbers, set info, or the question itself. Add {sd} to the end of the answer, not the beginning. Those who do not do this will be penalized 10 points right off the bat.
Note: Be creative with your answers, but don't be stupid.
Sheep questions are marked by an <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #F9DF00">S:</FONT>, Reverse Sheep questions are marked by an <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #A3D867">R:</FONT>.

Game-Specific Rules

For the purposes of this game, a "series" is a set of theatrically-released movies, consisting of three of more installments (unless otherwise noted). The Matrix movies are a series; Gremlins 1&2 are not.

A "series" can consist of sequels AND prequels.

Unique Bonus: Reverse Sheep questions will generate additional bonus (negative) points according to the following:
1 Unique is awarded -20
2 Uniques are awarded -15 each
3 Uniques are awarded -10 each
4+ Uniques are awarded -5 each

Slam Dunks {sd} Players have the power of multipliers in their hands. Each player is given five (5) Slam Dunks ({sd}) which they use by adding {sd} to the end of their answer. Your Slam Dunks have different effects depending on the question you use it on:
In <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #F9DF00">Sheep</FONT> questions, the {sd} adds 1 to the Multiplier.
In <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #A3D867">Reverse Sheep</FONT> questions, you can use your {sd} to turn the question into a sheep question for you. However, if your answer is wrong, it does nothing.
Slam dunks cannot be stacked. Use one per question only or else they will be discarded. You cannot use two slam dunks to turn a Reverse into a Sheep and then slam dunk those sheep answers.

Here we go …

1. <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #A3D867">R</FONT> Name a sequel (or prequel) that was nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
2. <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #F9DF00">S</FONT> Name a movie sequel that is as good as or better than the first movie in its series.
3. <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #F9DF00">S</FONT> What is the best horror movie series of all time?
4. <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #F9DF00">S</FONT> Excluding “Star Wars,” what is the best science fiction movie series of all time?
5. <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #F9DF00">S</FONT> Name an actor (male) who has starred in at least two noteworthy movie series. (For this question, a “series” may consist of two movies or more.)

7. <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #F9DF00">S</FONT> What is the best animated movie series of all time?
8. <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #A3D867">R</FONT> Name a movie in the “Star Wars” series.
9. <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #F9DF00">S</FONT> Name an excellent movie that spawned two or more sequels, all of which were horrible.
10. <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #F9DF00">S</FONT> Name an actress who has starred in at least two noteworthy movie series. (For this question, a “series” may consist of two movies or more.)
11. <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #F9DF00">S</FONT> What is the best action/thriller series of all time?
12. <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #F9DF00">S</FONT> What is the best superhero series of all time (note: a shared universe does not count as a franchise). Please make sure to be SPECIFIC about which superhero series you're referring to, as some superheroes have had more than one series of movies.
13. <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #F9DF00">S</FONT> Name an awesome prequel.
14. <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #F9DF00">S</FONT> Which current movie series do you wish would just die already?
15. <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #A3D867">R</FONT> Name a movie in the “Lord of the Rings” or “Hobbit” series.
16. <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #F9DF00">S</FONT> Name the best third installment in the history of movie series.
17. <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #F9DF00">S</FONT> Now, name the best fourth installment.
18. <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #F9DF00">S</FONT> Again excluding “Star Wars,” name the best movie series to consist of six installments or more (both sequels and prequels count).
19. <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #F9DF00">S</FONT> Name a movie sequel that was released at least fifteen years after its predecessor.
20. <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #F9DF00">S</FONT> Name a movie that has never had a sequel that is most deserving of one.
21. <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #F9DF00">S</FONT> Name a director who has helmed at least three installments in a single movie series. (Please name the director and the series.)
22. <FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #A3D867">R</FONT> Name a movie in the “Harry Potter” series.

IMO, this game's questions will be very easy to answer... but difficult to match.

Oooh, good questions!
Will require some thinking. Count me in and please give us some sort of a time frame you are looking at for submission deadlines.

I'd like to compile and begin running the game by Thursday or Friday, but that might be unrealistic given that tomorrow is a holiday. We'll see how quickly the answers come in, but it may be Monday before the submission window closes.

Re: Reverse Sheep, Part Two, the Sequel: Electric Boogaloo

We've got six players so far. Keep 'em coming guys.

A couple of notes, based on the answers I'm receiving:

* For Question #12 (Best Superhero Franchise), please specify WHICH franchise you're referring to, as some superheroes have had more than one.

* Keep in mind that for a movie to be considered part of a franchise, it has to take place in the same universe as the other movie(s) in the series. Just as a for instance, I would NOT consider Adam West's "Batman: The Movie" to be part of any Batman franchise. Please keep that in mind for certain reverse questions.

The more I think about it, the more dicey I'm realizing this game is going to be. Without giving specific examples, there are obviously some franchises where a main character is the tie that binds all the movies together, even if played by different actor(s) and with different continuities. There are other instances where a main character headlines separate franchises. And there are some gray area franchises as well. When it comes to scoring, I'm going to use my best judgment as to whether a movie is considered part of a certain franchise or not, based on what I think general consensus would be. Hopefully everyone will be willing to go along with me on that. Perhaps I should've used the term "series" instead of "franchise," I'm not sure...

I had this same thought reading over the questions, luckily, you'll only have to make those judgements on the 4 reverses, and the only one I can see requiring that will be #1 (does this movie count as a sequel because two characters appeared in an earlier movie? does this movie count since it was turned into a sequel retroactively?)

For better or for worse, I am in.

Scrolling this thread, I noticed that GhostLee posted for the first time since he disappeared in the middle of his sheep game.

There were a couple of questions where I struggled with what would be a sheepy answer, and I ended up just using a correct answer. I hate that I thought of the "correct" answer a few hours later.

Hooray! GhostLee is alive!

Hope you don't mind that I took the liberty of finishing out your game when you went AWOL.

Also, answers in.

Thanks, and I don't mind at all.

I am alive, but that's more than I can say for my old computer; after 20 years, it expired in the middle of that game. It's taken this long for me to replace it, hence my disappearance.

Answers submitted.

Mr Flix, let me know if there's a problem with the way I answered #12. I wasn't sure exactly which of those two parts of my reply would count or if they would be lumped together regardless.

And I came up with a GREAT answer for 20, but suspect nobody else will match it.

We have sixteen players now. Without naming any names, some of you have given some REALLY excellent answers... but are still really bad at playing this game.

If we get 20 players by the end of today, I'll start running answers tomorrow. If not, I'll run the game beginning on Monday.

On a side note, the local drive-in is playing 4 movies whose titles I will withhold so as not to influence the game ... but two are part 3 in their respective franchises, one is part 5, and the other is 47 Meters Down. The marquee looks like an algebra problem.
