Favorite "slick" fighting/driving movies (non-superhero)?

You know the ones like Kingsmen and Baby Driver. Those new slick style movies where hero or heroine who kicks ass without being a superhero.

Not really a stretch, but definitely John Wick for me. That gun-fu slick style was new when it came out. There have been similar, but this was fresh.

Also, loved the hell out of Drive.

I love those slick style movies when they are done well.

Maybe "Black Moon Rising" with Tommy Lee Jones and Linda Hamilton might fit the bill.

I've liked the trend of streamlined action movies like John Wick and Baby Driver, but that's more because they're done well.

That said, A Bittersweet Life is my pick. There will be a lot of overlap with the "Movies that are bad ass" thread.

Nah, these are the recent cadre of films in the vein: Lucy, Atomic Blonde, Salt, Wanted, Taken, Bourne, etc...

You might like SO CLOSE (2002), a female-centric high-tech action thriller from Hong Kong, starring the formidable trio of Shu Qi (THE TRANSPORTER), Vicki Zhao Wei (RED CLIFF), and Karen Mok (BLACK MASK). For years I've been pushing for a Hollywood remake, although every time I bring it up my preferred casting choices change. Right now I'm pushing for Scarlett Johansson and Jennifer Lawrence as the two sisters and Rooney Mara as the cop pursuing/helping them.

Drive
John Wick 1 & 2
Max Max: Fury Road (maybe not "slick", but Max and Furiosa are kickass drivers/fighters)

There's quite a few HK flicks that should be included in this thread. They've been making this type of movies for years.

I'll go with papa. The Matrix. Probably my introduction to that invulnerable kind of action sequence. And probably still my favorite.

What are we really discussing here? Ronin is a great car movie, but it's not slick. It's grounded, and adheres to some semblance of reality. So Close and The Matrix and Kingsman are hyper-real, with almost cartoonish stylization.

I think we're talking more about The Matrix or Kingsman (or any Marvel movie). Where everything is very choreographed. Lots of wires and whatnot.

I wasn't a huge fan, but I may have just been distracted by the really crappy, over abundance of CG when I saw it. But it's been close to 15 years so I should probably give it another chance.
