The Accountant 2 (D: O'Connor) S: Ben Affleck
Warner Bros is mobilizing a sequel to the 2016 hit The Accountant. Screenwriter Bill Dubuque, director Gavin O’Connor and Ben Affleck are in talks to return, along with the producers Lynette Howell Taylor and Mark Williams. All those deals are being worked out right now. I’m told they will then work out the beats of the story, which will likely include Jon Bernthal, whose character asserted himself at the conclusion of the first film.

Every time the protagonist went back to his home to torture himself with flashing lights and metal music, all I could think of was this:

I enjoyed the the first one quite a bit. Wonder where they would take it? Would be interesting if they could find a way to unwillingly pit them against each other.

While it wasn't groundbreaking, it was entertaining. I would watch a sequel.

I'm TOTALLY in. Loved the first one. I was talking to a friend of mine who deals in Autism Support and has a son and niece on both ends of the spectrum and she says the community seems to love this film. It shows the spectrum in very cool way.

I didn't think the first one was that big of a profit-maker to warrant a sequel. Worldwide boxoffice of $155 million on a $44 million budget is okay, I guess.

John Wick only made $88M WW on a $20M budget. Studio could be looking for a similar increase for the sequel. Also, might've done well on home video/streaming.

John Wick did exceptionally well on home video and was extremely well received. The Accountant must be doing pretty well on VOD/Rental/Sales.

Based on my very unscientific observation, I predict it won't make back it's budget

I wanted to like the first film more than I did but found it disappointing. Probably won't bother with the sequel unless the reviews are good.

One thing I liked, and hope they continue, is the realistic low key action. It always bugs me that "spies" or characters that are supposed to be "undercover" or fly under the radar(Bond and Bourne...I'm looking at you) get involved in citywide, crazy car chases, gun fights etc. where their identity would be blown or compromised. Then again, I guess Bond was never much of a "secret" agent. Not when you tell everyone exactly who you are.

Director Gavin O’Connor‘s The Accountant was one of the most surprisingly thrilling films in years, a taut, intelligent thriller that starred Ben Affleck as an autistic accountant moonlighting as a hitman. A sequel has been in the works pretty much since the first film hit theaters, but due to numerous professional and personal upheavals in Affleck’s life, that feels like another lifetime ago. At the time, the actor was juggling Justice League and The Batman, which he planned to both direct and star in. Three years later, Matt Reeves is directing Robert Pattinson in The Batman and Affleck has a new lease on life, staring down a slate of projects ahead of him that includes a reunion with O’Connor on the sports drama The Way Back.
Still conspicuously absent from that slate, though? An Accountant sequel. So when we sat down with Affleck and O’Connor to discuss The Way Back, we also got an update on The Accountant 2, which could have new life on the small screen. Here’s what Affleck said:
“We’ve talked about it. There seems to be a debate whether or not to do a TV series version of it. The scriptwriter [Bill Dubuque] has become quite successful and busy, so he’s off doing his thing. And somebody said to me, ‘Well if we could find a script that we could retrofit and make into a sequel… But that’s sort of tricky because the personality of the character is so specific, that doesn’t really work to just say, ‘Well, we used call this script Action Movie Shootout, and now we’re going to call it The Accountant 2′.”
Affleck did note, though, that if the opportunity arose to play Christian Wolff again, he’d happily dive back in.
“But it is one of the few movies that I’ve worked on, that I’d be thrilled to work with Gavin again and do that again,” he said. “I had a great time. It was a lot of fun. It was an interesting twist on the genre and I’d love to do it.”
Affleck laughed. “And if they want to produce a TV show version of it and I get some royalties, well that’s great too.”

Intelligent? The guy put on strobe lights and death metal at night to f*ck with his own head. I found the movie laughable and I'll give Affleck a free pass for almost anything.
