I liked it. My only criticism would be that it didn't have Wright's humor, or have as much of it as I would like. The movie was, or got, a little to serious/heavy, more than it need to be. A lighter, more humorous bent (like the sequence where he gets coffee) would've made it better, maybe.

I really enjoyed this and it would have been close to being a 5 star movie had the two main villains not been so cartoony. Jamie Foxx seemed to be channeling his prior role Motherfucker Jones from Horrible Bosses. Hamm seemed to be channeling Wile E. Coyote. Both were annoying unfortunately. Flea, the Asian dude and the chick seemed more believable as criminals.

I really enjoyed whoever the kid was in the main role. Kevin Spacey was good. The love interest was not overplayed and seemed genuine (though for someone such as Baby who doesn't talk much, he sure could deliver some smooth as glass lines to the girl in their back & forths).

Loved the shoot-outs, walking in the streets, car chases, etc. all having links to the music playing. And really enjoyed all the non-conventional but awesome music. Finally a movie that didn't choose all the standard songs you hear in every fucking movie (I am looking at you Guardians Of The Galaxy series and every Vietnam movie ever made).

Was I the only person that felt Baby's jacket made him look like a young Han Solo during the entire movie? It had a similar look to Han's vest and long sleeve shirt. But that could have been just me.

With its few faults, I still highly recommend seeing this though. Nice to have an original, fun movie out there!

He was on the shortlist for the role of Solo. When stills came out of him in this with the jacket, I definitely know I thought he could've looked the part. I thought I mentioned it in one of the threads.

I think it was more he wound up leaning on exposition more than usual at the mid-way point. Up until then, the movie was totally show everything with some clarification, then it gets into a sitdown stack of explaining and setting up motives instead of showing them. But that may of been a budget restraint. Even in one of his lesser movies (The World's End) he managed to do indepth character exposition while people were running for their lives. In that moment, it sort of reminded me of Trance where they spent 10 minutes simply explaining every double-cross.

To his credit, he did a lot on a $34m budget.

I liked that the whole think took place in downtown Atlanta - you don't see it used so much in movies/TV.

Isn't every single Marvel Studio movie filmed there?

Maybe, but it's not the actual setting, and they dress it up to look like different cities.

I kept waiting for the "Made in Georgia" Peach logo that seems to be at the end of every other TV show or movie these days. It didn't show...

I have mixed feelings about this film. I loved the music and cinematography (particularly the tracking shot at the beginning, which is just phenomenal), but I found most of the bad guys too "pretty" and not particularly menacing, and I thought the ending fell flat (real or not, although I lean towards it being real since it "faded to color" this time). I also agree with slop101 that it needed a better sense of humor.

Jon Hamm was a revival of a menacing villain who just won't die (after the third or fourth time I laughed).

That used to be a more popular element. Whatever happened to that?

I liked Hamm in this, his character was goofy and just enjoying his crime work in a silly manner until "shit got real." He was less a seasoned gangster and more somebody just looking for fun.

I didn't buy that somebody like Spacey's character would hire somebody as unhinged as Foxx tho.

I really liked it. Thought it had a good amount of humor. A lot of nice little touches that was already mentioned.

One of the best films of the year. It all worked for me. The cast was great, the direction so assured, the music choices sublime.

I wasn't expecting much from this movie. I been to the theater a lot this year and have only enjoyed about half the movies I've seen. Wright reminded me of DePalma in how he was almost showing off in how well crafted this was. Even is the subject matter doesn't interest you this is something worth watching.

Really good flick  The actress playing Debora (who I remembered from Downton Abbey) was absolutely radiant. Nice tukhes too. Great acting, exquisite use of music, exciting action sequences. It wasn't perfect -- it got a bit saggy at times -- but it always reeled me back in.

The 'Harlem Shuffle' sequence was an amazing piece of cinema. And surely the best use of 'Hocus Pocus' in a movie ever. EVER!

Cool article on Wright using the music he picked for the movie.

Those that go to the Alamo Drafthouse knows how the pre-movie show is themed towards what movie they're showing. Baby Driver had an interview with Edgar Wright giving his top 5 car chase sequences and explained why each was so awesome. Pretty good stuff.

Lily James, and yes, she's gorgeous.

She also played Cinderella in the Disney live action movie from a few years ago, which is where first I noticed her.

This was the best first-run movie I've seen in a long time. I thought everyone did a great job in their roles. I was especially captivated by Lily James as Debora, but there wasn't a weak part of the cast. I was a little surprised Jon Bernthal had such a small role and just disappeared without ever returning. But, great flick all-around. Definite Day 1 buy for me when it hits Blu-Ray.

Just got back from seeing it. Enjoyed it, but agree that the ending fell a little flat. Lost opportunity. The whole movie I was wondering - when are we going to see Baby's car? He's driving the equivalent of burner phones. Where's his personal ride? He's been stashing away money under the floorboard - I know he's got a tricked out restored vintage ride under a dust cover in a parking deck somewhere for an emergency escape. Sort of a Mad Max-Vehicle connection vibe. And you know it would have a solid sound system dialed up ready to go. I would have preferred an ending where he made it to his personal ride with Debora - after much difficulty - and made it onto I-20 West cleanly without being spotted. Then, after an all night ride (with Debora sound asleep and a classic easy listening rock song in the background), he crests a hill and sees that he's just been lit up by a state trooper speed trap. He takes his foot off the gas bringing it from 85 to below 80 and hopes for the best. His gaze is locked on the rear view mirror for several beats as he monitors the cop. Nothing happens. He thinks he's good to go and exhales, looks back at the road, and then fiddles with the head unit, changing the tune to something a little more upbeat. Camera keeps the rear view mirror in view and we see the trooper's flashers light up as he pulls onto the highway after Baby. Roll credits.

So, when Baby said he had another Debora song in mind, did anyone else expect to hear
Spoiler:
Dave Edmunds
?

Shortest end credits I’ve seen in decades. That counts for something. The music credits were longer than anything else in the credits.

$34m is bordering on low budget these days, so I guess it isn't completely surprising that there were fewer folks involved.
