Re: Esquire : The 50 Scariest Movies of All Time
I would add:
Dawn of the Dead Incredible Shrinking Man The Wolf Man |
Re: Esquire : The 50 Scariest Movies of All Time
The Witches (1990)? Fun movie, but I'm not sure I'd rank it as one of the scariest.

Re: Esquire : The 50 Scariest Movies of All Time
Some personal favorites :
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) The Vanishing (1988) Martin (1976) The Innocents (1961) Near Dark (1987) The Changeling (1980) Onibaba (1964) Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986) The Tenant (1976) The Brood (1979) Possession (1981) Vampyr (1932) Hour of the Wolf (1968) |
Re: Esquire : The 50 Scariest Movies of All Time
There are some titles on that list I would happily replace with Jacob's Ladder.

Re: Esquire : The 50 Scariest Movies of All Time
Meh, with the exception of unforgivably leaving The Exorcist off the list, it looks just like every other Top ____ Horror movies list ever made.
And while I probably wouldn't put up much of a fight over it's inclusion, Salo has to be the most overrated movie to appear on this list. |
Re: Esquire : The 50 Scariest Movies of All Time
The Haunting (1963) and The Innocents (1961) need to be in the list.

Anjelica Huston has never looked lovelier. http://media.giphy.com/media/9p52uwnvg3vA4/giphy.gif |
Re: Esquire : The 50 Scariest Movies of All Time
The Exorcist was likely consciously left off the list as clickbait fodder. These type of lists on the net are less an honest accounting of actual movies and more about generating controversy for clicks.

I think "Bravo's 100 scariest movie moments" was a better list.
|
Re: Esquire : The 50 Scariest Movies of All Time
Human Centipede shouldn't be on the list, much less in the top 10. HC2 was much better.

Re: Esquire : The 50 Scariest Movies of All Time
Missing a lot of good asian horror on the list.
Ringu A Tale of Two Sisters One Missed Call Ju-on The Grudge Cure |

Re: Esquire : The 50 Scariest Movies of All Time
I've rarely found monsters at all frightening, with the possible exception of the zombies in Romero's Living Dead movies, but I do find deranged humans scary (esp. in real life). One of the scariest movies I've seen this year was WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? I first saw it decades ago and don't recall my reaction to it. I was young then, but now I'm older than both Davis and Crawford were when they made that movie and I found Davis truly scary. I think it's because, as an older person, I understand Crawford's vulnerability and helplessness a lot more. It's a fate that looms much larger than it did when I was in my 20s.

Re: Esquire : The 50 Scariest Movies of All Time
Pretty lame list...
Only about half of the movies on the list are actually "scary." Another quarter or so are solid genre classics (ie, Frankenstein) but in no way classifiable as "scary" let alone of "all time." And more than a couple are just lousy movies period... Cabin Fever, Human Centipede, The Lords of Salem... wtf? |

Saw headline, decided I'd read it as long as The Exorcist was at the top of the list. Bye!

I knew there was a reason I don't read Esquire(.com).
