JMO, of course. I realize there are far more people younger than I for whom the eighties were their personal golden age. And they seem to be legion.
For me, since I was born in 1980, technically my nostalgia mainly comes from the 90s outside of childhood things like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Ghostbusters; I enjoy the synthetic music and scores from cinema in that era. That's what I like about the 80s, not the style or lack thereof. I've started getting into the retro 80s new wave music, NINA and VHS Glitch are two good ones.

Ain't nothing from 80's fashion that I look at today and think "I wish that would come back".

Like I said though, JMO.

The only thing that 80's setting is going to do for me is ratchet down my enthusiasm a little- which I actually consider to be a good thing.

There was one thing to show up in '84 that I still love- the culmination of the Tara Markov storyline in New Teen Titans. I came to X-men at the start of the Paul Smith run, so I missed reading the Dark Phoenix saga in monthly installments. NTT, on the other hand, was something I was already invested in by the time she showed up, and that storyline was a blast.
So I guess the 80's weren't all bad.

1980s punk fashion was bad ass.

Shoulder pads were more hit than miss, but hit with the right women.

Cyndi Lauper did the dumpster diving fashion better.

And here's Kelly LeBrock with more subtle, but good 80s fashion.

They don't want to draw too many comparisons to the Lynda Carter Wonder Woman TV series for fear of it being interpreted as campy or tongue-in-cheek.
And for me, not a fan of the 90s.

OT - I am a little surprised though that they aren't mining nineties nostalgia. We're well into what should be the 20 year cycle.
Same here. I thought when Lady Gaga fell off, that was it for 80s nostalgia. It's still going strong. Look at the Cobra Kai series with all the 80s callbacks.

Yes he is.
I used to think that the 60s and 70s was the era that taste forgot. Hippie hair, big lapels, bell bottoms...hideous. Apparently they say the same thing about the 80s, or they used to.
But yeah, every era has it's good points. Carlito's Way and Saturday Night Fever make the 70s look cool.

Yeah, I think that was a consideration too. FWIW with this character the 80's is a bit of a fresh backdrop for her to be seen in. Not my favorite, but I get it why it would be desirable on multiple levels for a production today.

Iím curious what the relevance of 1984 is to the film. The first film being a period piece made some sense having it take place during World War I but I canít think of anything big from 1984 specifically. I still think this could have just been set in modern times. The only reason I can think why itís not is to retcon the idea that she abandoned humanity up until Batman V Superman.

Maybe because of the additional significance of it being the same year that George Orwell's 1984 is based on. People writing stories about the upcoming Wonder Woman 2 can name drop George Orwell and Steve Jobs/Apple Computers to give it some added association importance.

Haruki Murakami came out with a fiction novel 1Q84 that takes place in 1984, but why that year and title? Why not any other year? The book has some very tenuous connection the Orwell's book but it's not really relevant to the story at all. Maybe Murakami chose that year because readers might have some familiarity with a 1_84 book title, or some kind, any kind of connection to a popular book like Orwell's doesn't hurt from a commercial aspect.

But probably I'm wrong and something special happened that year for the character in comics or something relevant to that year affects the plot of WW2.

Prediction: Something in the plot will revolve around AIDS.

Pine and Gadot had good chemistry so I like that heíll be back somehow. Curious if itíll be flashbacks or how theyíll work him in.

It's 1984 attire, so a flashback doesn't seem likely.

Well, now that's interesting given the events of the first film. Ignoring that, age would also be a factor.

I wonder if WW could make a deal with Zeus or Hades to bring him back? Hmmm...

My guess is that Pine is playing Steve Trevor, Jr.

It's a hokey idea, but not without precedent: in the Lynda Carter TV series, Lyle Waggoner played Steve Trevor in the first season (set during World War II) and Steve Trevor Jr. in seasons 2-3 (when they moved the series to present day).

Dumb title, but it doesn't matter that much in the grand scheme of things.

Would have preferred an Etta Candy revival.

I'm intrigued. Seems like they want to set complete different tone which could be a good sign

All I can say is they need to work this into the movie somehow.

I am curious about Steve Trevor. Wondering if maybe he's brought back via magic. Still don't know who Pedro Pascal is playing.
