Because our theaters suck here, I usually travel for something I知 wanting to see. I知 lucky enough to have Peoria and Bloomington an hour away, and Champaign just a little more than that. Although, my last trip to the Bloomington IMAX was bad enough I won稚 be back for awhile.

There you go. Problem solved.

I wouldn’t call “only major cities” semi-wide. Maybe that’s just me.

I threw in the semi because of that, above 600 is considered Wide Release otherwise. Plus I mean, it's playing in my parents town which is hardly a major city, but they're in Florida which is coastal, and coastal states seem to get far more releases overall.

Interesting similarities between Shape of Water and a short called Space Between Us.

I usually take these type of plagiarism claims with a grain of salt, but I think these guys have a pretty good case here. There's no way Del Toro didn't see this short and then "borrow/steal" a number of concepts from it for his movie.

I wonder if this will affect the movie's or Del Toro's Oscar chances? I'm not going to watch the short because I liked the movie and don't want to think Del Toro was basically stealing. Ugh.

On a side note, after that short one of the recommendations that popped up was one called “Seam”. It was damned good.

This finally made it to my local Cinemark. It sucks that they put it on their smallest screen, but it still made for a great time at the movies. The score was beautiful. I really enjoyed all the performances, especially Michael Shannon and Octavia Spencer... loved how intense the last scene between those two was.

Re: The Shape of Water (2017, D: del Toro) S: Hawkins, Shannon, Spencer, Jones, Jenki

“After recently screening ‘The Shape of Water’ and following conversations that took place in a very constructive and friendly atmosphere, The Netherlands Film Academy believes that both ‘The Shape of Water’ and our short, ‘The Space Between Us,’ have their own very different identities. They have separate timelines of development and are not in any conceivable way interlinked or related. The students and “The Space Between Us” team were very excited and grateful to have the opportunity to actively discuss the creative inspirations of both films in a personal conversation with Mr. del Toro. We cordially discussed our films and our common roots in mythology and the fantastic (and some themes which Mr. del Toro has previously dwelled on Hellboy I and II). We have learned a lot from the contact with an extremely gifted and creative filmmake and wish ‘The Shape of Water’ continued success.”

Another miss from Guillermo Del Toro. Along with Three Billboards this is the most overrated films of the year.

Because Crimson Peak as melodramatic as it was felt more like a gothic romance with supernatural elements, which I found more interesting and mature than GDT's adult fairy tales.

To each their own, but Crimson Peak nearly bored me to death.

Surprised by the slow roll out. I had no idea greater Cincinnati was such a cinema city, but I知 not complaining I got to see it s few weeks ago already.

Then again the new Ted Bundy movie is behind filmed just a few miles away from me.

Yes, it was boring as fuck.

I was expecting a horror movie with Loki in a haunted house, and instead got some boring-assed Merchant Ivory film with a dodgy CGI ghost randomly thrown in.

It was a combination of both wasn't it? Regardless, it looked kinda shitty.
