re: Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 (2023, D: James Gunn)

Before all that shit happened, Gunn was really active on social media and showed a lot of behind the scenes aspects of his movies. I remember last summer he did a Facebook live chat from the set of Brightburn (unnamed at the time)

Now that time has passed, I also would like to see him return to talking about movies and showing making his movies. His incessant political commentary was what got him into trouble in the first place.

I was going to complain about Efron’s height - he’d need the Hagrid treatment to fit in on screen with Bautista and Pratt. Depending on Marvel’s willingness to tease short folks, that could be played for a good laugh. I could see a big buildup over his perfection, only for their first encounter to have him come up shoulder-high.

Could have sworn that twitter feed had a endgame post that was wrong (the only one wrong at that) and now it doesn't even appear on the timeline anymore

Well I know he said Stan Lee's cameo was at a 70s car show, which wasn't totally true, but pretty close.

Part of me wants to think that Disney did reach out to directors and they passed in solidarity and support of Gunn. Sort of their own boycott over the stupid firing. Certainly the actors' support would also scare off any directors coming in.

I thought there were a couple that passed for that exact reason.

Hmm, but the article states otherwise.

A few people stated publicly that they wouldn't take it if offered. Taika Waititi specifically said he wouldn't do it, but didn't actually turn down an official offer, or even do a meeting to discuss it.

At today’s FX TCA today, Thor: Ragnarok director said he’s definitely not directing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3., “however I’m still hanging out with those guys (Marvel) and talking about new stuff.”

...Did he meet with Marvel before he decided not to? “I didn’t really. For me, those are James (Gunn)’s films. Going into something like that with his stamp all over his films, would be like going into someone’s house and saying ‘Hey, I’m your new dad, and this is how we make peanut butter sandwiches now. It feels kind of awkward.”
The article states that neither Horn nor Feige ever met with another director. That does leave the door open for the possibility that they put "feelers" out for certain directors to see if they were interested, but nothing "official" was stated/offered. I could see Feige maybe standing his ground and going "Gunn or not at all," like suggesting that maybe they just don't make another Guardians movie.

Wow, I have so much respect for James Gunn. The maturity and sincerity of his responses is very refreshing. You can tell he is a totally different person then he was before and it's amazing that he isn't bitter about the whole thing and took it as an opportunity to learn and grow. No publicist saying "no comment" or other denials or excuses. He takes full responsibility and shows how it effected him and how it changed him. That's very refreshing.

Did we ever find out who's decision it was to fire him and how Kevin Fiege felt about the whole thing? And I'm sure they were actively looking for another director it would have been irresponsible of them to not at least start to try to line something up. Maybe they did that to at least say they tried to look for someone else.

Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn fired him.
https://variety.com/2018/film/news/j...xy-1202892424/
Gunn’s firing was approved by Disney Studios chief Alan Horn, with his boss, company CEO Bob Iger weighing in on the final decision.
And they weren't actively looking for a replacement, according to that article:
As for replacing Gunn, Disney feels no pressure to immediately find a new director, according to sources, and is willing to wait until the right A-list filmmaker comes along. For one, the studio never gave the film an official release date, even though it was widely expected to hit theaters within the next two years. Depending on how long it takes to land the right director, Disney may in fact wind up pushing back the film’s original February 2019 start date.
As for Kevin Feige, he never officially took a stance besides supporting Horn's decision. There were rumors he was pushing for Gunn to be rehired, but it's unclear how hard he fought for that, if at all.

Only vaguely familiar with Adam Warlock but Will Poulter is great. Excited for this.
