Songs not written for a movie/franchise but became synonymous with it.

Not sure why I was thinking about it but I wondered what songs not originally written for a movie (or franchise) there are.

Three I thought of were Extreme Ways for Bourne, Red Right Hand for Scream and maybe Kiss From a Rose for Batman Forever.

"Your the best around" from the Karate Kid was originally written for Rocky 3.

Probably not exactly what the OP meant but I'll add:

Bohemian Rhapsody - Wayne's World

Stuck in the Middle with you - Reservoir Dogs

Mad World - Donnie Darko

Back in Black - Iron Man

I'll just go off on a tangent. It's not synonomous with it, but The End fits so perfectly with Apocalypse Now it seems like it should've been written for it.

Very good.

For extra points: what movie was "Singin' in the Rain" written for? (Hint: it was a Best Picture nominee.)

"Honey Don't" -- The Prince of Tides

I'm thinking Carl Perkins didn't write that song to be played over a scene of a child getting ass-raped.

In Dreams by Roy Orbison was written long before Blue Velvet came out, but it always makes me think of the movie.

So true. Back in the day, when lugging around a boom box and my cassette collection, my friends would see I had The Cars' first album. They'd beg me to play Moving in Stereo, and I always looked at them funny as I felt (and still do) that it's one of the weaker songs on the record. Then I finally saw Fast Times...
