Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich (2017?, D: Laguna, Wiklund; W: Zahler)

Stumbled across this while looking up something completely unrelated on the IMDB app, as usual, and didn't see a prior thread for it here. I've never been a huge fan of the original series, and stopped watching early on, but obviously it had legs. More interesting here, I think, is the directing duo from the buzzed-about but rather underwhelming WITHER, and the writer of BONE TOMAHAWK, and the oddball cast (Thomas Lennon, Michael Pare, Barbara Crampton, Udo Kier, Charlene Yi, Matthias Hues, Nelson Franklin). Feels slightly more upmarket pop-cultish than what audiences have come to expect from producer Charles Band in recent years.

The IMDB synopsis:

follows a recently divorced young man who discovers a mint condition Blade doll in his deceased brother's closet and plans to sell the toy at a convention in Oregon celebrating the 30th anniversary of the infamous Toulon Murders. All hell breaks loose during the auction when a strange force animates all of the puppets throughout the convention, setting them on a bloody killing spree.

I can imagine Band pushing pricier reboots of a lot of his franchises if this gains any traction.

Producers assert that the new will include the puppet mayhem mixed with comedy while expanding upon Toulon’s backstory. Kier will portray Toulon. Zahler sought out Laguna and Wiklund to direct due to his interest in their previous micro-budget horror films.

Due in part to their typically abysmal budget (and the fact that the knife-wielding murder puppets are the real stars of the show), you don’t usually think of things like “actors I’ve heard of before” when it comes to the cast of a Puppet Master movie; this is a franchise where Corey Feldman—from 2004’s crossover Puppet Master vs Demonic Toys—is a big-name get.

I can't believe this series is still putting out movies. What a ridiculous premise.

Looks fun.
