Is the character in the public domain or is it owned by the Chandler estate?

I'll check it out. I'm happy to see something different from Neeson other than a PG-13 action movie. I liked Memory from last year that was actually released by Universal and was directed by Martin Campbell, but it made no money and didn't get good reviews.

But, I don't think Marlowe will get very big distribution. It will probably play in like 1,500 to 2,000 screens at most and won't make any money either.

I'm interested. It will look great at the very least.

The rights are handled by the estate. Not in public domain.

This film is based on an authorized novel written, by a different author, as a sequel to The Long Goodbye.

Memory deserved a better reception. It was a nice change of pace for Neeson.

Damn, another Neeson bomb. And I was excited that he was stepping out of the lightweight PG-13 action genre that he’s mostly been doing the last 10 plus years.

I rented this from Red Box last night with a free rental code and thank goodness it was free. Sadly, this was the blue print on how to make a dull, forgettable and incomprehensible detective thriller. Aside from the Marlowe character, I couldn't tell you who was who and what the motivations of everyone was. The only good things about this were some of the set and costume designs. No wonder no one watched this at the box office and the reviews were terrible.

It was boring and no wonder it did not get a lot of publicity and probably why it came in Jan or Feb.

Diane Krueger was barely in it and kind of cold Neeson, Lange, and Krueger were only mentioned in the opening credits though maybe the other actors were happy not to see their name for this turd?

They should’ve titled this one The Big Snooze.

I watched a few Neeson flicks recently, and his character often joke about their advanced age. Funny thing here is that he says he shouldn’t nail Diane Kruger because he’s old enough to be her father, but the age difference (71-46) isn’t as pronounced as usual. Ok, that’s about all I have to say about this one.

Tried to watch this last night with the wife and we had to turn it off about half way through. She was falling asleep and I was bored to tears. Too bad since it's one of my favorite genre and had a great cast. I doubt we'll ever go back to finish it.
