If you live in the UK, it seems BATGIRL will hit the theaters sometime in 2023.

Well it looks like Batgirl is not happening. At all.
Batgirl won't fly at Warner
Despite reshoots and retooling, apparently the new regime thinks the film ain't working and canned it entirely. Weird.
I'm sure the usual "DC/WARNERS DOESN'T KNOW WHAT IT'S DOING!!!" crowd will seize on this to gloat, but honestly if the rumors of the test screenings were true ("irredeemably bad"), and they feel what they have is a disaster, maybe it's better that they cut it loose and keep moving in other directions.

It is surprising that they a shelving a film that’s essentially finished filming and just needs to be edited at this point.

Zaslav was the same one who cut CNN+ after a month, figuring a $300M immediate loss was better than losing billions later.

As a life long DC fan, I gotta say they really suck lately. In comics and media.
New bosses aren't fucking around.

Not gonna gloat too much but how hard is it to make a good Batgirl movie? There are good comic sources and things like the Animated Series have handled her well.

That sucks. The budget was always small but I guess they didn't do much with it. As state above a fun BG movie should be easy to do.

Didn't pay too much attention to this outside of it being directed by the Bad Boys for Life film, which I liked, and that it was being made on the "cheap" for HBO MAX. Looks like it looked too cheap even for the heads of the studio (90 million dollars). Hmmmmm, whenever I see stuff like that I am reminded of Saul Rubinek in True Romance, "I swear to God, someone is stealing from me!"

WTF. That seems crazy to scrap a movie that is basically done. If it does truly suck, nobody is going to be like "Well, I am done with Batman movies forever now because this is terrible.". Really awful decision making.

I've enjoyed the Nolan movies and the Reeves Batman flick, but they've focused strictly on the titular character. The extended Bat-family has never played well in live-action.
But for some reason though, they absolutely kill in the Arkham video games.
If you're going live-action, might as well go for that Arkham City hyper-stylized unreality but played for verisimilitude. Play up the things that don't really make sense -- but somehow DO make sense in the Batman world.
And Joel Schumacher never understood that. He never could grasp why playing it over-the-top and upping the camp/jokey/one-liner factor completely robbed the storyline (which in his films was anemic at best) of any weight and impact whatsoever.

Poor Michael Keaton. Cut from Aquaman, this won't get released, and The Flash... who knows.

Yeah it seems like Keaton’s return is kind of cursed at this point. I really want to see him return to the role but who knows what’s going to happen.

I mean maybe they cancel Gotham Knights but if they go through with that and not this, I mean this must've been really really bad.

On one hand, this sucks and even if it's the worst film ever, I'd be interesting in taking a look, especially if it's "too awful to release".
On the other hand, I admire this dude's inability to be beholden to the Sunk Cost Fallacy.

Surely it can’t be worse than Halle Berry’s Catwoman, which got a theatrical release and tons of press back in the day.

This is bizarre. How many "big" movies don't see the light of day? I know it happens when studios go bankrupt and/or get in legal trouble and such, but when was the last time a major studio just shelved a film completely like this?

re: Batgirl (D: El Arbi / Fallah) [CANCELLED]
Reading more the impetus seems to be focusing on theatrical releases for their owned properties and (I guess) not streaming focused stuff (a Scoob! film was also shelved). Like I said before, if they kill off all Max specific DC stuff just because they want to put the focus on the theatrical films, that just seems nonsensical and going backwards to the time where we couldn't have Batman in cartoons if he was in a movie (or whatever that was).
But now I'm really curious if they have the balls to just shelve Flash entirely. It's like the (third) nail in the coffin for Keaton Batman.
