Yeah...no. They've developed some pretty good movies and shows over the years. They're not trying to compete with Netflix, they go at their own pace and accord. At this point, I get Prime for equal parts the shows and movies and for the shopping perks. Their music platform isn't bad either which is included and my kids use it a lot.

Jack Ryan and The Boys are both quality shows worthy of a subscription, IMO.
I haven’t seen it but The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has won all kinds of acclaim.

I don't think Coming To America 2 will change that. It's not Star Wars.

Don't get me wrong there a some really good shows on prime video. The Boys is als Mrs. Maisel are fantastic, but amazon still lacks a big hit. The Marvel shows on Netflix attracted new members, as did Game of Thrones on HBO or The Mandalorian on Disney+. Amazon needs a big hit like that, if they really want to be competable with their streaming service. Now it's not more than a nice side business to attract customers for the shop. Strip away the shop platform and the shipping and you have something like Apple+. Some really nice shows, some with critical acclaim but hardly one with some buzz.

Amazon Studios has confirmed that it has acquired worldwide rights to keenly anticipated sequel “Coming 2 America” from Paramount Pictures, and has set a March 5, 2021 date to launch on Amazon Prime Video.

Wow, weird they are keeping it in the can that long... I will eventually watch this one but I can't even guess why they would wait until March to release it.

It may have to do with 1. Giving them time to work out all the contracts about product placement. 2. Spacing out their Prime Video output and showing a good first quarter in 2021.

It's not coming out until March. I wouldn't expect a trailer until sometime in January or even February. It's not like they need to spend theatrical advertising money.

Didn't realize Jermaine Fowler was in this. I guess he plays the son? Enjoyed him in Superior Donuts (during its short lifespan).

Watching that trailer, if you would have told me it was shot 5 years after the original I would believe you.
