Plus Travis Knight and the ability to see what's happening.

That's kinda the point. The fact that they are going with G1 designs after the other 5 movies steadfastly refused to and they were decent moneymakers means that they're intentionally going for something different this time. If they're going to that much trouble, and setting it in the 80s, I think they'll be putting some effort into the story so it's not just a pretty face.

Re: Bumblebee (2018, D: Travis Knight) -- Transformers spinoff -- S: Steinfeld, Cena

I think it looks really fun and the fact that it takes place around 1987-88 makes it even more interesting to me. Plus Travis Knight did solid work in animated and I'm looking forward to seeing what he does here. This could very well be a soft reboot for the series.

Only issue is that it's in a murderous row on movies in that 2 week span and opens the same day as Aquaman.

I'll be there on Day 1. This is the film I've been waiting for.

Can we get the release dates put in movie threads titles once we know it?

This.

Most of us honestly aren't asking for much from a Transformers movie. I think most can agree the first was actually pretty good. But the designs for the transformers and the plot just kept getting needlessly more and more complex. They should have just kept it short and kept it entertaining. So far I'm hopeful that this looks to be both but also adds some much needed heart into the mix.

Yeah, it feels somewhat similar in tone to the previous ones.
✓ Teenage main character
✓ Military involvement
✓ Same locations
✓ Cute robot jokes

John Cena, similar locations to the first one, military involvement once again, and this possibly NOT being a reboot have me concerned.

Yeah, if it weren't for the G1 designs, I would probably not be interested in this. But that part of the film trailer is only the thing that caught my initial attention.
This is also being a period film that takes place when the original Transformers cartoon debuted. Awesome!
It's NOT directed by Michael Bay. Great!
Bumblebee doesn't have the radio voice. Relieved!
The actress playing Spike's role seems likable. And it looks like this might be a soft-reboot of the series.

The previous films were terrible because of the poor story, extremely immature humor, racist caricatures, straying far away from the source material, focusing on the pseudo-GI Joes, and the list goes on.

It really wasn't. We just accepted it because we got Transformers on the big screen and it had Peter Weller. It's not AS bad as the sequels, but the warning signs are there.

Transformers has been a dud from the get-go. Like Obi-Wan said, it was Transformers + Weller on the big screen and had Megan Fox as an added bonus.

Pretty good is probably too strong a term.

But it was at least entertaining. Again not asking for much, just asking for it not to be a total shitfest.

I hope it's at least a decent movie and it does well enough and Paramount recognizes that it's because they went a different direction and we get a total reboot of the series with more sensible designs and finally get the movie we've always wanted. Or it fails, the series goes dormant for 10 years and then we get the movie we've always wanted. But Peter Cullen isn't getting any younger.

Some more footage of the 80s versions makes me very nostalgic.

I actually thought part 3 was the best. Less human bullshit, fewer piss and ball jokes. Not as racist either. Took them a while to get there though!

I'm just excited to see one without Michael "Put More Shit On This Robot" Bay directing.

And HOT DAMN those G1-inspired designs look so much better.

I hope Hornet comes to Netflix as I will totally watch. For some reason I thought Bumblebee was out today...nope, Christmas which is great because I am getting over a cold that kicked my ass and would be bummed that I could not hit the theater on opening weekend, but now I can.

They're saying that this is the best of the live-action Transformers films.
