Lionsgate Studios
When did Lionsgate become so huge?
It seems that almost every movie that comes out is from Lionsgate or one of their subsidiaries. They led everybody in 2017 with 26 Oscar nominations for La La Land, Hacksaw Ridge, Deepwater Horizon, and Hell or High Water. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...ionsgate_films http://kastorskorner.com/wp/wp-conte...sgate-logo.jpg |
Re: Lionsgate Studios
They were always the biggest straight to video provider. Then they bought Artisan, the Saw movies started to make massive bank for them. Then The Expendables made them a lot of money and when they released The Hunger Games trilogy that was the final brick they needed to build the mansion so to speak.

Re: Lionsgate Studios
They're definitely up there amongst the smaller major studios like Paramount and Sony in terms of revenue and power, yet still have good indie-oriented instincts for smaller movies like La La Land and Hell or High Water.
One indie studio to really look out for is A24. Their output is quite impressive. |
Re: Lionsgate Studios
Annapurna and A24 have pushed out a lot of quality content over the last five years. My concern with A24 is they never seem to have actual hits, though most of their movies are relatively low budget.

Re: Lionsgate Studios
In addition to the new Power Rangers movie, Lionsgate is also releasing box sets of all the Power Rangers seasons. I've had to make shelf space available for them.

Re: Lionsgate Studios
They also pay small amounts for big and not so-big budget flicks for U.S. distribution.

Re: Lionsgate Studios
Lionsgate Premiere seems to get quite a few known actors for their straight to video movies:
Examples: Morgan Freeman, John Travolta Nic Cage Christopher Meloni Bruce Willis Clive Owen Anthony Hopkins Jeffrey Dean Morgan are just some of the people who have starred in Lionsgate Premiere titles. |
Re: Lionsgate Studios
On that note, almost all of their VOD movies are acquisitions. I still don't know who Bruce Willis pissed off to be in some of his recent VOD flicks.

Re: Lionsgate Studios
Not sure if he pissed off anybody. I've read he gets something like $1M a day which is why in all of his DTV films he's only in it for 15 minutes or so and generally mostly in 1 or 2 locations.
Oh, and don't forget about De Niro, he's appeared in a movie called Heist with Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Gina Carano and Morris Chestnut. |
Re: Lionsgate Studios
It seems that Lionsgate and Universal are producing the most movies these days.
Warner Bros seems to be cutting down since it seems they don't make a lot of movies now compared to the past or they are saving their money for big blockbusters or TV. One thing about Lionsgate blu-rays you can't go backwards on the chapters in the menu selection lol. |
Re: Lionsgate Studios
They also got a nice boost by acquiring Summit Entertainment, home to the "Twilight" series and where "Hunger Games" originated.
