It was also apparently remade in Sweden as Drömkåken (1993)
Interestingly, Are We Done Yet? (2007) is also listed as a remake of Mr. Blandings Builds his Dream House, but is not listed as connected to The Money Pit
I can't find any reference to The Last Starfighter being a remake of anything though.

Re: Movies that surprisingly haven't been remade
Some movies really ought to be forever untouchable -- The Godfather, Star Wars, The Exorcist, Jaws and the like got it so right the first time, there's absolutely no need for a re-do. They're timeless. Why revisit them? The only time someone tried to re-do an absolute classic was Psycho, and we know what happened there.
I think it was Roger Ebert who once opined that Hollywood should focus on remaking those movies that were admirable failures, fixing what was wrong in the first place. But no, Hollywood wants to bank on title recognition, so the movies that don't need a remake get remade, and the ones that do get ignored.
Back to the Future is the well I'm most surprised they haven't gone back to. But I see that being more of a reboot or next-generation movie than a remake, if it ever happens.
And nobody better ever touch The Princess Bride.

I'm kinda surprised nobody's tried to do a remake of Ghost.
Bring in Emma Stone, Channing Tatum and Wanda Sykes and you've got a surefire boxoffice hit.

Dragon Lives Again- apparently when Bruce Lee died he went to hell and teamed up with Popeye, Zatoichi and the One Armed Swordsman to fight Dracula, James Bond, The Godfather, Emmanuelle, Clint Eastwood, the Exorsist (wait the exorsist is a good guy right?) A remake would obviously have a limited theatre run but I still think it could be a very popular movie. This is one of the few times I wish they would do a remake.

Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis say there won't be any Back to the Future remakes ... not while they draw breath ... and maybe beyond that. Their contracts prohibit it.

Google Gale, "Back to the Future", remake, and contract. But I think all the articles say the same thing.

I'm surprised a Flashdance remake hasn't happened yet since they remade Fame and Footloose.
...then again, looking at their box office success, maybe I answered my own question.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen had a shit-ton of potential, needs a re-do.
I've always said The Wizard of Oz should be done as it was in the book. In the book, the Wizard getting away in the balloon was closer to the halfway point than the end.
The Running Man, especially with the reality-based entertainment era of today.
I had heard Johnny Depp/Nicolas Cage wanted to redo the Thin Man series, thank Crom it didn't pan out.

That one would have seemed to be a natural following Alien/Aliens and Predator (as well as Leviathan and Deepstar Six), but it never happened.
I still have to think that Universal will do it before too long. If done right it could translate to modern day better than The Mummy, Frankenstein, or Dracula.
