Rank Paul Verhoeven's Hollywood output

Mainly his movies between Robocop and Hollow Man. In the 90's he was definitely one of the most consistent directors in Hollywood and with the exception of Showgirls he never did a stinker. And even then, Showgirls in entertaining in a so bad it's good type of way. Mine would go:

1. Robocop: Still his best movie IMO. It just does everything well.

2. Starship Troopers: This got completely buried when it first came out by critics but it holds up well and critics are starting to finally come around to it.

3. Total Recall: I still love this movie but I think it's somewhat dated now and while it does hold up, some of the dated parts of it hold it back.

4. Basic Instinct: Honestly never seen it all the way through and unedited just bits and parts on TV. But I do like what I've seen.

5.Hollow Man: This wasn't very good but still had it's moments.

6. Showgirls: It's scuzzy, sleazy and trashy and hilarious at the same time. Not sure how he was able to have such a misfire as this.

Yeah I agree with your list, but I have never seen Basic Instinct so I can't exactly say where I would rank it.

I'm surprised how small his mainstream U.S. resume is.

I mostly agree with the OP's ranking but Basic Instinct is terrible and should be swapped with Hollow Man.

Hollow Man should have been better than it was but it still isn't Basic Instinct bad.

Hollow Man is a piece of shit.

Basic Instinct is a fun albeit over the top neo noir.

Katie Tippel and The 4th Man are interesting.

Soldier of Orange and Turkish Delight are a bit underwhelming, was expecting more.

Would put Total Recall and RoboCop at the top.

Elle isn't a Verhoeven Hollywood offering.

Most of his stuff is decent, but if your mid-40s, who wasn't completely blown away by the violence of Robocop? I had never seen anything like it when I was 16 in in 1987-88. I would rate it at the top because of the story and overall rawness factor it had.

Except for Robocop I'm not too fond of his Hollywood output. I do like some of his 70's & 80's Dutch output such as Soldier of Orange The 4th Man & Spetters.

Not Hollywood but, IMO, Black Book is his best film to date.

I thought it was ok, IMO it felt like one of his Hollywood film except it's in Dutch.
