Re: Jay & Silent Bob Reboot (2019, D: Kevin Smith)

I like Kevin Smith as a person, and there was a point in my life where he was my favorite filmmaker, but man, he just never did grow. In fact, I think he regressed after dogma and when he started smoking weed full time.

Love the man, but I just cant locate that 15 year old me that still find Jay and Silent Bob funny.

I still love everything up to and including J&SBSB and even Zach & Miri has its moments but that looks rough.

I like the concept though, so I remain optimistic.

It looks like too much of a retread of J&SBSB. Is the only thing Kevin could figure out for these characters is for them to be upset about a Bluntman & Chronic movie again? I hope there's more to it than that.

Man, I’m still a fan of his first few movies, but I didn’t laugh once at this trailer.

I wasn't a huge fan of J&SBSB, but there were some funny scenes/moments in it - even in the trailer.
There was nothing funny at all in this trailer, and everything just looks so tired and played out.
Kevin Smith doesn't even have any nuance to his acting whatsoever - he just reacts with a big expression at everything and points at people.

Pretty much the same here. I loved Clerks through Dogma, but it’s been rough ever since. I’ll pick this one up at a dollar store someday.

Re: Jay & Silent Bob Reboot (2019, D: Kevin Smith)

I love those guys. Love Kevin.

But.....

Ever since Kevin lost all that weight after his heart attack, the charm of his face that used to be so obvious and endearing has been reduced. Now he's having to over-mug to try to compensate for the loss of what used to be that natural endearing-ness.

Damned traitor heart.

But I'll see the movie if I can. And add it to my collection if it's released on DVD.

Good point. Get fat again Kevin. One of us. One of us. Make Kevin Fat Again

I like the trailer. I usually don’t get pumped about his movies. But I do enjoy them. Clerks 2 is probably my favorite.

I was a little worried about him getting stuck with ultra low budgets after his past few.

I'm pretty sure that's not what's across the street from the Quick Stop. I think there were some shots across the street in Clerks 2. Yeah, I know they rebuilt the QS for this movie and didn't shoot at real location.

It’s not. There are townhomes across from the real one. They faked it filming in New Orleans.

Pretty unusual thing to point out and it didn't occur to me, BUT, you are 100% right. The rounder face just made him look like a lovable teddy bear. The lovable teddy bear was a perfect counterbalance to Jay's manic zaniness.

And yeah, Jay's teeth still bother me.

Who convinced Shannon Elizabeth to get work done to her eyes?
It looks horrible.
She WAS one of the hottest babes around...

I'm generally in agreement. Liked the Jason Lee bits, but the rest look like re-hashed material/jokes from Smith's earlier movies. I mean for god's sake, Kevin...you're in your late 40s. The best you can do at this point in your life is juvenile sex jokes and foul language? I could grab some random kids on a college campus and they could write better material.

They probably should have gone with a passing of the torch and have like their kids take over. That probably would have been funnier.

I've reached a conclusion about Kevin Smith's filmmaking skills: lacking.

The guy has talent, no doubt.
And he did manage to catch lightning in a bottle with his debut film, but most attempts have been fails.

I mean what is his incentive to actually make a good film? Look how many people are posting in this very thread comments like "Looks like shit but I'll see it in the theater anyways!"

He should seriously think about just making screenplays and bail on directing.
I suspect he could write a decent screenplay if he abandoned his childish crap and concentrated on being an adult.

Re: Jay & Silent Bob Reboot (2019, D: Kevin Smith)

Smith has always had an up and down career if you ask me. I like Clerks, Clerks II, Mallrats, and Zack and Miri Make a Porno. Everything else I can pretty much take or leave. I think he's a guy that's better as an idea man than he is as an actual filmmaker. I like listening to him talk about films or pop culture topics on his podcast but I've never been a truly big fan of his films.

So is this just playing as a touring roadshow with q + a afterwards ? Was looking forward to seeing this one in the theatres but Seattle sold out quick and not sure I would have paid to go anyways. Probably if I knew it was the only way.

Jay & Silent Bob Reboot

The stoner icons who first hit the screen 25 years ago in CLERKS are back! When Jay and Silent Bob discover that Hollywood is rebooting an old movie based on them, the clueless duo embark on another cross-country mission to stop it all over again!

October 15 - Introduction from Kevin Smith, bonus content and an exclusive commemorative poster (limited quantities; first come, first serve)
October 17 – Double feature with Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back plus bonus content

It will probably go to On Demand pretty quickly.

That's the one where Kevin Smith was made up to look like a uncircumsised penis bratwurst and chased and tormented his daughter, right?

It won't. According to his Babble On podcast this week, it's only being shown wide on those two Fathom dates (Tuesday and Thursday), then it's going in "Road Show" mode through early 2020. Kevin says when the movie comes to one's city, it will have a special showing with him, but it will also have regular times for people to see it.

In other words, if you don't live in/near a major city, this won't be playing near you. If you do, it will probably be playing in ONE theater for a week or maybe two.

Kevin "claims" this is the best way to roll out a movie like this for his fans. But let's be honest, if the studio had ANY faith in its box office potential, it would go wide. Looks like most of us won't see it until it hits digital, which won't be until at least late winter or spring 2020.
