Very sad. Great performances throughout the years.

I just watched V for Vendetta 2 days ago too.

Just watched that movie again a few days ago and never knew all this time that was John Hurt. Great scene.

And we just lost Richard Adams a few weeks back as well. :(

One of his performances that doesn't get a lot of talk but made a big impression on me if is Heavens Gate.

He's one of those guys that did a lot in his career but doesn't get a lot of credit.

So many classic roles.

Hurt and Ian McShane made their film debuts in the same film, THE WILD AND THE WILLING (aka YOUNG AND WILLING, 1962). Samantha Eggar also made her film debut in it. Sounds like it might be worth seeing just for those reasons alone. McShane and Eggar are both still with us.

The New York Times obit for Hurt features a quote from an interview in which Hurt tells a story about Alan Ladd. I found that gratifying.

All amazing performances cited here and more.

As Richard Rich in "A man for all seasons", which Is one of my favorite movies ever. I believe he was the last major actor from that movie still living.

Sorry. Couldn't help it. Best death scene ever. (If you've seen Alien, of course...)

He was a really good actor. It's a shame that we'll never see him in anything else. He does leave behind a lot of good performances.

Just watched "Jackie" tonight. Didn't know he was in it. He turned in yet another great performance. Got sad the minute I saw him appear. What a talent!

He was also the star in one of my favorite schlock movies that has been mostly forgotten (or perhaps never known), Roger Corman's Frankenstein Unbound (alongside Bridget Fonda, Raul Julia, Jason Patric, and Michael Hutchence).

RIP. He added a touch of class in every movie he appeared in.

It was not his biggest movie but he was great in Owning Mahowny and providing PhillipSeymour Hoffmans character with ribs and a coke.

Sucks both of them are dead.

Outstanding actor. He will be missed.

I still remember how creepy/killer he was in what was a comedy movie From the Hip with Judd Nelson and of course the professor in Hellboy.

He was great in so many roles but a favorite of mine is his old man character from Wild Bill (1995). Seems like he's been playing characters in their 70s his whole career.
