Battle of the franchises: Resident Evil or Underworld
Both movies came out around the same time(one in 2002 the other in 2003). Both feature pretty hot leads. Both have had several entries with the supposed final entries coming out this January. Both movies seemed to be less and less well received the more they went on with in Resident Evils case people wishing it ended four movies ago. So which is the better franchise?
Story: I give this to Underworld. The story is somewhat easier to understand. Resident Evil I have no idea what the hell the story is anymore or where the story is going with each movie not building off the other and Alice being a different Alice in each movie. Underworld at least tried.
Leads: I give this to Underworld. I think Kate Beckinsale is hotter and has better screen presence than Milla. I just find Alice boring and Milla less hot.
Direction: RE has mainly been directed by Paul Anderson. Underworld has had a couple different directors. But they've all been better than Paul Anderson. Underworld wins this.
Action: Resident Evil has always had the better action scenes I can't argue that.
So I say Underworld is the better series. But man, is that not saying much.

I love Kate in Underworld, I just am not in love with the Underworld movies. I guess because I don't like werewolves at all and hate having them incorporated into vampire stuff.
The Resident Evil flicks aren't the greatest, but I can at least say that I make it a point to watch each one when they come out.
So my vote is for Resident Evil.

Re: Battle of the franchises: Resident Evil or Underworld
I've seen nearly all the Resident Evil movies but gave up on Underworld after the first couple. I guess I like sci-fi horror action over fantasy horror action. So Resident Evil, but I do prefer Kate.

Neither and both.
Resident Evil is terrible, but in that expected to be terrible, on the TV in the background sort of way
Underworld just makes me sleep, but I liked Beckinsale in leather.

Never been a fan of the Underworld movies after the first two, whereas i've seen all the Resident Evil movies. RE is more fun.

I liked the first Underworld movie but pretty much stopped after the second one.
Resident Evil movies aren't that good but they're entertaining to watch.
So far, looks like a one-sided poll.

Equal. Neither are great movies, but they're not direct to video schlock either.
RE has more amped up action going for it.
Underworld has a cooler vibe to it. More visual.

I vote equal. I have all the movies of both series (except the RE: Final Chapter and Blood Wars) and I like to watch them equally.

Resident Evil. Can't explain it, but I quite like a few of them - to where I've watched them a handful of times. They're gloriously stupid and entertaining.
I never gave Underworld a chance. Maybe I'll catch up on them sometime.

RE2 was the worst out of the first 4 I've seen. Is it still the worst? RE1 rocks though.
I only ever saw Underworld 1. Like that world more than the RE world.

Really surprised by the poll results. Seems like RE was always crapped on more than Underworld.

I gave up on both franchises after the second movies, but I will vote Underworld, only because Kate is hotter than Milla.
I think they've both more than outworn their welcome though. At this point they might as well just cross them over to unite the fanbases

As for the poll, for some reason I've seen all the Underworld movies (except the new one) and none of the RE movies. Going on that, I'd have to say RE is better, because how could it not be.

Re: Battle of the franchises: Resident Evil or Underworld
Excuse me?
I've seen 1 and 2 for Underworld. Didn't see the Rhona Mitra one and for some reason don't know what it is about still. A prequel of some sorts with Michael Sheen back.
I don't remember what RE4 was. I know I saw that one. That's embarrassing. Not remembering what I've seen. I'm not even 27 yet.

I like RE1 a lot. You're right. They're pretty forgettable. I only remember 1 cuz it's actually good and it's a got a little dirty feel to it. Not sure what to call it.

Where do you rank RE2 in the series? I could barely make it through it and never tried the rest of the series.

Re: Battle of the franchises: Resident Evil or Underworld
RE2 is the worst movie from either franchise IMO - borderline unwatchable. That said, I watched BOTH franchises in their entirety this month. I think Resident Evil 1 is a more enjoyable ride than Underworld 1, which I find hasn't aged well and is paced horribly. Underworld is definitely more stylish but sometimes almost to the point of being a parody.
Resident Evil 2 (Apocalypse) is a complete throwaway while Underworld Evolution improves on the first film, with a leaner story and amped up action. Resident Evil 3 & 4 don't reinvent the wheel but they have some great action beats, fun cast and move quickly. With Anderson returning for 4,5,6 the movies honestly start to blend together and have a LOT of repetition story and action wise. None of them particularly stand out from one another but are serviceable sci-fi action flicks with Milla kicking tons of ass. I'm not sure you can expect anything more (and you literally don't get ANYTHING MORE...but that's fine). I like the Resident Evil franchise as a fun mindless diversion but not much else.
Underworld 3 is underrated in my books, lots of fun watching Sheen and Nighy chew the scenery. Underworld 4 suffers from an overall blandness to the proceedings (and an obvious lack of Speedman to the point of being comical) but introduces a few new characters who become more interesting in Underworld 5. Blood Wars was over the top and stupid in the best way and I had a blast with it - much more so than RE6 - so I give the slight edge overall to Underworld - mostly on the fact that Resident Evil Apocalypse is so horrendous.

However ...I don't have a 3d set-up at home and Anderson's films lose a little something in 2D. The films also feel like each film re-writes the story with very little "glue" holding the chapters together.
