Favorite Boston and NYC movies?
Both these cities have such distinct styles and locations. So rich in movie history and locations.
Boston: probably tie with Mystic River and The Departed
NYC: tie with The Godfather and French Connection

Manhatten Murder Mystery - Its a fairly light Woody Allen film but it showcases New York in a way that's even better than his more famous NY films. He films at a Rangers game and Carnegie Hall and a hidden little courtyard and anonymous little streets that don't normally get shown at all in a NY film.

The Friends of Eddie Coyle is probably my favorite Boston movie. Robert Mitchum drunkenly cheering on Bobby Orr at the Garden pretty much sums up exactly what it's like to attend a Boston sporting event.
There's so many New York movies to choose from, it's hard to pick just one. I guess I'll throw out Sweet Smell of Success since no one has mentioned it yet.

New York:
WEST SIDE STORY (1961)
Boston:
MYSTERY STREET (1950) with Ricardo Montalban and probably the first Hollywood feature shot on location there.

I’m interested in Patriots Day and Stronger. Gotta to see those Boston based movies. I’m sure won’t hold candle to my op...

This is an insult to NYC, which deserves its own thread. Why did you pair it with Boston and then give it second billing?!
Meanwhile you gave L.A. and S.F. their own separate threads!
