I'm really getting bummed out about all the Netflix stuff that potentially won't get any kind of physical release.
Scorsese
Welles
Herzog
Coen
Cuaron
Baumbach.
such a shame.

I'll be getting a Bluray for The Other Side of the Wind for contributing to the crowdsourcing campaign. I would hope some of these other big names would negotiate some sort of terms that allow a physical release after X amount of time. Just as they are negotiating theatrical release.

I’m pretty sure Roma is getting a theatrical release. It was filmed in 70mm.

I’ll definitely check it out this weekend. That trailer looks great, although the Tim Blake Nelson segment almost looks like it’s a parody of Coen Bros. films.

According to this piece in today's NY Times, SCRUGGS sneaked in and out of theaters already and is sneaking back in, but only in a few:

After the opening weekend, anyone looking to see the film between Monday and Thursday this week would have been out of luck. (On Friday, the Coens’ film will reopen in a handful of theaters on the same day it begins streaming on Netflix.

A few great shorts and some truly awesome cinematography but I did find most of it unremarkable and forgettable.

Currently watching. The first two stories are straight up Blazing Saddles territory, but I’m liking the seriousness of the following ones (I’m on “Girl/Rattled” right now)

Reminds me of the last few coen films. Intelligent, perfectly shot, subtle in ways that will take time to develop. Llewyn Davis is still better, but the cadence of buster was enchanting. I will have to watch the back half again.

Spoiler:
Most of the acting was very good, although some actors had problems selling their Ol' West accents.
I also noticed the gamma was slightly raised during some of the chapters (i.e., Stagecoach).

I enjoyed almost all the shorts. The Liam Neeson short was the only one I didn’t care for. The rest were all good to great.
Like the poster above, I was expecting the last short to tie them all together but before the final short even started I kind of figured it wouldn’t because they all felt so disconnected from one another.
I think my overall favorite was the second epside with James Franco (Near Algodones). I’d recommend the movie to any fans of the Coens and westerns.

After seeing this and True Grit I hope to see the Coens make another Western sometime soon.

Am I the only one who has a hard time accepting this new crisp look that all Netflix originals have?
