I liked the camera catching Michael Shannon saying "that's fucking awesome" to Aaron Taylor-Johnson's win.

Seems like Chazelle launched a few careers with his movie.

Woulda been better if Goldie Hawn just said "And the winner is Ryan" and walked off the stage.

No on Zootopia. Kubo should have taken it.

Paul Verhoeven's speech after winning for Elle was really awkward. Though he made a valid point, the movie works more because of Isabelle Huppert than anything else.

I can't believe Verhoeven won. So cool and yet so bizarre.

Is it amateur hour in the booth tonight? What's with all the cuts not matching up to the delay? Geez.

They're trying to show "When they actually find out they won", somebody probably thought it'd be a good idea. Nope, just looks like they're on a real life time delay.

I have a high tolerance for boring award shows, this is exceptionally close to blowing past that threshold.

It's not just there. It happened at the end of Hiddleston's speech too.

I turned out while he was talking, that's weird. And yes, amateur hour.

They just botched a play off, and what's with the music choices?

personally I'm still shocked 'The Red Turtle' wasn't nominated - a film in my Top Ten of 2016

It's really a three actress race now between Stone, Portman and Hubert. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Moonlight over Manchester By the Sea was the big shock of the night. Don't think either of them will really stop the La La Land momentum- the Academy loves movies about LA (Crash) and the movies (The Artist); a combo of the two is pretty tough to beat. Still it's fair to call this a three movie Best Picture race now.

^ The Academy has some compensating to do for last year's "white washing". I won't be a bit surprised of Moonlight takes the Oscar home this year.

Great speech by Meryl Streep! It's rare an acceptance speech impresses me the way her's did.

I think that is where the Supporting Actor and Actress awards come in. Mahershala Ali and Viola Davis win going away. Plus nominations for Denzel and for Naomi Harris. Nobody is going to say #OscarsSoWhite this year.
I don't think it's impossible that Moonlight wins, but really I think the nomination is enough. Plus Brokeback Mountain (which won the Globes) showed that maybe the Oscars might not be ready to give their top prize to a gay-themed movie yet.

You're probably right. I still think it's La La Land's to lose but I also wouldn't be surprised if Moonlight nabbed BP.

Except Moonlight is one of the most critically acclaimed films of the year and is in Oscar's wheelhouse, even without #OscarSoWhite last year it's hard to see how it wouldn't be in the BP race this year. And in the case of Fences you have 2 of the most talented actors on earth in an Adaptation of a Tony Award winning play they already performed together before. The second that got Greenlit for the big screen you could probably pencil in Viola and Denzel for at minimum Oscar noms in whatever year it came out.

-Jimmy Fallon was almost non existent tonight compared to Gervais/Fey/Poehler. He didn't have a memorable moment all night.

-I hope Denzel and Viola both pick up gold at the Oscars. It was the performance of a career for both of them. But I think it'll probably be Affleck for Manchester.

-Elle winning 2 awards was almost as shocking as Elle being nominated in the first place. I was so happy for both of them.

- The funniest bit of the night was Carell/Wiig. But I still didn't laugh.

-Meryl Streep throwing shade Donald Trump's way without saying his name was bad ass.

"Elle" was completely off my radar, and probably would have stayed that way had I not tuned in when Paul Verhoeven was giving his acceptance speech and I recognized his voice (from many video extras and commentaries). Any Verhoeven film will at least get my attention.

I find Fallon completely unfunny. It was refreshing to see him try to ad lib without his material on the teleprompter, which finally proved how completely unfunny he is WITHOUT his writers. He seems like a nice guy and he's not without talent (he's a good singer, obviously), but I'll never figure out what most of America sees in him.

Am I the only one who finds Viola Davis pretentious? There's another celeb I don't understand all the fawning over.

Seeing Sly and Carl at the end was the highlight of the night. "Ain't gonna be no rematch"...because Carl could obviously kick Sly's ass at this point.

I have yet to see Moonlight or Manchester by the Sea, but La La Land isn't "Best Picture" material for me (although that hasn't stopped the Academy in the past). I think it's an enjoyable movie...but there were a lot of enjoyable movies in 2016 (I actually think Sing Street is better than La La Land, but it doesn't stand much of a chance with the Academy...if it's even nominated at all).

Anyone notice that his name was never mentioned? It was Title and Country and then he came up and they didn't even put his name up on the screen.

.
I was talking with a friend about him last night and I think he appeals to women cause he's a safe comedian. My friend's wife loves Fallon, my mom loves Fallon, and sadly that's what sells.

I'd rather have a comedian like Norm McDonnell, LouisCK or Chris Rock host, but they are too edgy for alot of people and don't appeal to the masses.

Anyone notice Ryan Reynolds was tanner than George Hamilton? Is he trying out for the Jersey Shore?
