Favorite scene or sequence in a Star Wars movie?

I still get chills with the Deathstar run and subsequent destruction in A New Hope.

Opening scene of A New Hope. The wow factor hit 1000% and I was all in.

The part where after a night of partying Lando dares Han to make out with Luke.

It used to be Vader grabbing the Emperor and throwing him down the shaft when Luke is being tortured. My favorite scene in any movie ruined with a "No, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO".

Williams' dramatic, minor key score during the beginning of the medal ceremony at the end of A New Hope. It was a bit unusual to have a piece like that for a completely happy ending, and it always stuck with me.

Yes, I remember thinking that as well. Loved it though...

Mine is still Luke looking at the two stars, full of wonder and yearning.

Luke and Vader's final battle that leads to Vader losing his hand. Seeing Luke go completely apeshit and catching himself just before he goes to the Dark side is the most emotional sequence in the entire series.

This. The emotions and the music in there. Just amazing. The fight is amazing cuz it's all emotion from Luke. Just attacking out of his emotions. The moment Vader brings up Leia and Luke's realization that the stakes have risen just drives him wild. Then the whole Emperor attacking Luke and Vader's internal struggle w/ that. Just great drama. It's a fight scene led by drama. Great drama. Those are what made the fights awesome. You gave a fuck about the stakes. The PT never did that. It was just there for action.

I do hate though that right before Vader loses his hand... the actor playing him just goes down to the railing very slow. I get that choreography wasn't where it was w/ fight scenes here in the states but that always irks me. I get past it quick though cuz it's such a damn good scene that I can forgive that.

in hindsight of it all. As perfect drama it is. I do question it's choreography in some forms. The leaded fall into the railing and Vade's picking up of the Emperor. The latter is just kind of goofy. Vader just lefts him... and we get that shot of him just being lifted and not moving much. I probably would have put in up to 10 more seconds into that bit. Seeing more of a struggle from the Emperor. And I guess that that would add more value to Vader's act being a more physically stressing moment.

There's one shot in this sequence that always seemed *perfect* to me in the way everything works in concert (the emotional beat, the movement of the actor, the way the prop moves, the scoring).
It's the shot of Luke in profile as he turns off the targeting computer and the visual screen retracts and he settles back into the cockpit.
It's just this perfect fluid motion of objects that encapsulates the sense of the character being confident and fully at peace with his decision.
It marks a point where the space battle is essentially over and this is all that is left- all or nothing stakes.

The Luke vs Vader fight at the end of Empire. From the moment he comes up on the elevator to the final fall it is totally gripping. Vader is toying with him at first and then goes full on rage mode and it's only then that Luke sees he is outmatched. Also the intercut sequences of Boba Fett flying Carbonite Han off in Slave 1 whilst Leia and Chewie shoot at the ship is cool. It's a great matte that they used for that sequence and Fett comes off super bad ass.

That's it for me to. It's the culmination of the whole saga and it's tense.

My favorite effects shot is the Falcon taking off from Hoth. Luke turns and watches it cruise low to the ground before heading upwards, but it's movement is much more plane-like instead of shooting straight up.

My favorite scene between characters is when Luke surrenders to Vader on Endor. All animosity is set aside as Luke confronts Vader in the way he was supposed to.

I'm going to put this in spoilers because it's getting OT to the OP, and it will make it easier for others to pass by it, but I just gotta say it or my head is gonna explode

Spoiler:
Yes, it is fitting that it is the culmination of the whole saga because what essentially happens is that the Jedi, who has been strutting around like a badass earlier, pussies out from delivering a deserved and long overdue killing stroke and basically surrenders so someone else can save his ass.

If you watch this "saga" objectively you'll note that everything Luke does of any consequence to aid the high faultin' cause of rebellion (i.e. to restore peace and justice to the galaxy) is accomplished prior to him becoming a Jedi.
After he's a Jedi he does primarily two things- save his friend, and inspire his genocidal, sociopathic, black hearted father to save his life and kill the emperor- the latter of which would have happened anyway due to the blood, sweat, and sacrifices of a whole lot of non-jedi warriors.
In other words, after becoming a Jedi his focus is entirely self centered- he saves his friend, his father. Aiding the larger cause that everyone else is fighting and dying for is no longer of prime import. It's all about the major things in his world.

The Jedi are assholes. The films show us this time and again, yet because the films also tell us constantly how great and noble and idealized the Jedi are, the fans follow in lock step.

I always love the escape from Sarlac pit in Return of the Jedi. Then in the prequels the Wookiee battle on Kassyhk.

Favorite scene in any Star Wars Universe movie?

I always thought Han using lightsaber to sever the Tauntan and put Luke in it in Empire Strikes Back was one of the coolest things as I’ve seen in these movies over the past. It’s the only time, to my knowledge, a lightsaber was used by a non-Jedi. And Han, someone who mocks that stuff, used the weapon of a Jedi. Always got a kick out of that.

Expanding on Old Boy : The entire Hoth opening of Empire is perfection. A complete enthralling story self contained in 30 minutes.

Let's face it : Most of these movies aren't art, but that sequence is pure movie magic and hasn't been improved upon in 40 years of blockbuster moviemaking.

The entire throne room sequence in Return of the Jedi. Specifically after Luke goes too far with Vader and the Emperor is cackling for him to join the Dark Side. Then Luke defiantly telling him he’ll never join the Dark Side.

Also when Luke is captured the scene outside the throne room with Luke trying to plead with Vader one last time.

Do you mean the scene where Luke surrenders on Endor? I think this is the best scene in any of the 9 movies. It's much deeper than two enemies meeting again.

Also, in terms of excitement and just plain cool, the scene where the Millenium Falcon takes off from Tatooine and the banter before the jump to hyperspace.

For one of the best sound experiences, when Obi Wan is fleeing from Jango Fett in Episode II, and Jango shoots those seismic bombs at him. Every speaker goes nuts during that sequence.

I feel like that is the original of the “blaaaaat” noise that got popular to the point of being mocked in the Inception trailer. And it really is used remarkably in AOTC.

Duel of the fates.... Maul vs Obi-Wan & Qui-gon. I do hate that it has to keep cutting to the Gungan battlefield and the palace raid.
