Can anyone name a sequel to a comedy that was as good or better than the original?

Pure comedy only qualifies and not comedy-action movies or comedies mixing other genres like Scifi or drama.

Ted 2 for me. On repeated viewings I've enjoyed it more and more.

The Pink Panther series has some good sequels. My personal favorite is Return of the Pink Panther (#4).

I don't think comedy sequels need to be as good as the original to qualify their existence, they just need to be entertaining in their own right.

That said, most of them do fail that test. I agree with Ted 2 being funnier than the first. I also liked Waynes World 2, Rush Hour 2, The Naked Gun 2 1/2, Hot Shots Part Deux, Addams Family Values and A Very Brady Sequel.

A Shot In The Dark is pretty good.

Waynes World 2 was good though most of the public would disagree. Christmas Vacation might be one of the rare good comedy sequels.

Independence Day Resurgence

The first movie was ok but not really worthy of a sequel.

Bill Pullman looking like the dos equis dude in the beginning could not save that movie.
