All of the casting choices look fantastic to me.
EXCEPT Will Smith. He is just not right for the part. And I say this as a fan of his. In the right role he can be great, but not this one.

SEPTEMBER 05, 2017 2:43pm PT by Mia Galuppo
Disney's Live-Action 'Aladdin' Casts Billy Magnussen as New Character (Exclusive)
The actor will play an original character not seen in the 1992 animated pic.
Prince Ali has got some competition.
Billy Magnussen is joining Disney's live-action Aladdin as Prince Anders.
The Guy Ritchie-directed movie based on the 1992 animated pic will star relative newcomer Mena Massoud as the street rat turned prince. Power Rangers actress Naomi Scott will play Princess Jasmine, with Marwan Kenzari (Murder on the Orient Express) portraying the villain Jafar and Will Smith playing Genie.
Magnussen will take on the new role created for the movie musical, with all other character details remaining buried in the Cave of Wonders. He joins Saturday Night Live alum Nasim Pedrad, who is set to play the original character Mara, a handmaiden and friend to Jasmine.
John August (Big Fish, Corpse Bride) penned the script. Dan Lin, who worked with Ritchie on Sherlock Holmes, is producing through his Lin Pictures banner.
Magnussen has some experience playing a Disney prince. The Tony nominee appeared in Rob Marshall's Into the Woods as Rapunzel's prince, performing the duet "Agony" with Chris Pine.
The actor was last seen in the Aubrey Plaza indie Ingrid Goes West, and appeared in Steven Spielberg's Bridge of Spies and Adam McKay's The Big Short. Magnussen's small-screen work includes Netflix's Black Mirror, Epix's Get Shorty and FX's The People v. O.J. Simpson, in which he played Kato Kaelin.
Up next, Magnussen will star opposite Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams in the New Line comedy Game Night. He is repped by WME, Anonymous, BRS-Gage and Sloane Offer.

He was good in Ingrid Goes West.

Will Smith will put his own stamp on the Genie, Disney executives promised at CinemaCon on Tuesday while unveiling a behind-the-scenes look at its live-action remake of “Aladdin.”
Instead of imitating Robin Williams’ rapid-fire improv and celebrity impressions, Smith will inject the magical wish-granter with a little bit of the Fresh Prince and a little bit of Hitch. He also, as the footage shown Tuesday demonstrates, does not make a terribly convincing woman when dressing in drag.
Smith’s spin on the Genie isn’t the only big change in this “Aladdin.” Director Guy Ritchie, best-known for testosterone-infused flicks such as “Sherlock Holmes” and “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,” is leaning into the action sequences.
“He’s able to make it hot,” said Smith in an on-camera interview. And, indeed, the footage showed a kinetic camera following Aladdin (Mena Massoud) running, jumping, and leaping across the rooftops and through the tangled alleyways of Agrabah as he evades the Sultan’s men.
“Aladdin” will also get a feminist makeover. Princess Jasmine, who in the 1992 animated film, had little to do save for moon about the palace, is made of tougher stuff in this version. Naomi Scott, who plays the role in the live-action version, said that in the remake “Jasmine is strong and speaks her own mind.”
“Aladdin” will also feature new music, lots of dancing and pageantry, and familiar favorites such as “Friend Like Me” and “A Whole New World.”
Disney received a rapturous reception when it took the stage at CinemaCon, the annual exhibition industry trade show taking place this week in Las Vegas. The studio has released a dozen movies that have grossed in excess of $1 billion over the past six years, and has several promising upcoming blockbusters on its slate, such as “Solo: A Star Wars Story” and “Avengers: Infinity War.” It’s not just money that’s made Disney a favorite of theater owners. The studio is adamantly opposed to plans to release movies in the home weeks after their big screen debuts — an initiative that rivals such as Warner Bros. and Universal support.
“The Walt Disney Company is committed to the theatrical window. Period,” said Alan Horn, the studio’s chief, to sustained applause.

Having seen the Aladdin Broadway show, I can see Smith working pretty well as the Genie.

That's what I was afraid of when they cast Smith as the Genie. No one expected him to even try and match Robin Williams' performance as the Genie but I sure as heck didn't want a Fresh Prince sounding Genie either.

How old is Aladdin supposed to be in this? He looks like he's in his 30s.

Looks like they’re just resorting to making live versions shot for shot now from its animated counterpart. Really lame.

I guess I'll go against the forum consensus and say it was an effective teaser. It's probably the first time the general audience will find out they're making it.

I’m definitely interested, but that cave entrance looks like it could be knocked over by a toddler.

Aladdin is one of my favorite movies of all time, it would be really hard for this to top that
Haven't seen any of these live action re-inventions so not sure how they fare compared to the originals

Yeah, I'm most interested in how the Genie will look, that will make or break the film. Also I expected to see at least a glimpse of the Pink Power Ranger.

I've said teasers were underwhelming before only to get responses back of "it's a teaser! it's supposed to be like that!"
So... this was a teaser. I guess. Seems about right, I figured they would wait on the Genie reveal.

The movie doesn't come out for 7 more months, so it's understandable that they made it rather vague and didn't want to blow their load right now.
I'm sure we'll get a full 2 minute plus trailer either by Christmas or the new year.

Spoiler:
I’ve only seen The Jungle Book. It was well filmed, the effects were great, it mostly held my attention...and it was completely unnecessary.

Will see how it works during actual scenes, but the two leads simply come off as far too old for the parts. BatB partially worked (at least for me) because Watson pulled of playing younger.
Would be interesting to see what they do with The Little Mermaid if they ever go there.
