Does Amy Adams need this movie to be a hit?
Hillbilly Elegy, Woman in the Window, and Dear Evan Hanson were blasted by the critics and has been a bad streak for her.

She had a critical hit with Sharp Objects in 2018 and got an Emmy nomination for the performance.

But that was 2018
Maybe she made some bad choices but hopes she gets that mojo from Sharp Objects and the stuff she did prior to that.

I love Amy Adam’s but Idina Menzel is insufferable. I’ll probably end up checking this out on Disney+.

I'd say this is arriving over a decade late. I thought Adams might portray Giselle a bit differently, since the character has had fifteen years to become acclimated to the "real world". But it looks like more of the same, which I guess isn't the worst thing. The first one may not be the greatest movie, but she made it fun to watch.

Discover a fairy tale with a wicked twist. Disenchanted, an Original movie, starts streaming November 18 on Disney+.
It has been more than ten years since Giselle (Amy Adams) and Robert (Patrick Dempsey) wed, but Giselle has grown disillusioned with life in the city, so they move their growing family to the sleepy suburban community of Monroeville in search of a more fairy tale life. Unfortunately, it isn’t the quick fix she had hoped for. Suburbia has a whole new set of rules and a local queen bee, Malvina Monroe (Maya Rudolph), who makes Giselle feel more out of place than ever. Frustrated that her happily ever after hasn’t been so easy to find, she turns to the magic of Andalasia for help, accidentally transforming the entire town into a real-life fairy tale and placing her family’s future happiness in jeopardy. Now, Giselle is in a race against time to reverse the spell and determine what happily ever after truly means to her and her family.
“Disenchanted” stars Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, Maya Rudolph, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jayma Mays, Gabriella Baldacchino, with Idina Menzel and James Marsden. Directed by Adam Shankman from a screenplay by Brigitte Hales and a story by J. David Stem & David N. Weiss, and Richard LaGravenese, “Disenchanted” is produced by Barry Josephson, Barry Sonnenfeld, and Amy Adams, with Jo Burn, Sunil Perkash, and Adam Shankman serving as executive producers. The movie features songs with music by 8-time Oscar®-winning composer Alan Menken and lyrics by three-time Oscar-winning lyricist Stephen Schwartz, whose work on “Enchanted” garnered three Academy Award® nominations and a score by Alan Menken.

The critics are split down the middle (currently 52% on RT), but I thought this was a nice complement to the original movie. Better than the tiresome retread that was Hocus Pocus 2, anyway. The plot isn't anything unique, so it's strange how it got stuck in development hell for over a decade. This could have been a theatrical franchise three sequels deep by now if Disney hadn't kept putting it on the back burner.
At least Adams is still committed to the role and seemed to be having fun playing the wicked stepmother angle. The other returning actors (particularly Dempsey) got a bit short-changed since the Morgan character has more focus this time, but it was still nice to see them return. The new songs served the story fine, but I didn't think any of them were very catchy or memorable. I also thought the costume and set designs for Monrolasia (as well as the dance choreography) seemed to borrow too heavily from the Cinderella TV movie with Brandy and Whitney Houston.

The AV Club gave it a D+ rating (get it, because it is on Disney+, I know, ha ha ha) and said it just fails to recapture the magic of the first film. I never did see the first in theaters, and now that I think about it I have seen quite a few clips from the first movie, but not the actual film all the way through. It is a film I feel like I have seen before and I admit the review does not energize me into wanting to watch the first to get caught up in time for Disenchanted. Thankfully, there is just a metric crud ton of new stuff airing on tv/streamers starting today so it it not like I am lacking in new content to watch between now and Thanksgiving.

I thought this was good, not great but certainly better than the 6.0 it had on IMDB when I looked. I would put it around a 7-7.5/10 it was nothing original per se but it was some mindless fun. Not something I would have watched if not for Amy Adams as my kids have aged out of this but my wife and I liked it well enough. The songs were not too annoying and it's nice to see Morgan go back to acting as she has not done much since the original Enchanted.
Worth watching once but I don't see myself watching this again, while we must have watched Ecnahanted a dozen times over the years (but not recently.) The "Gissel!!" line from when the price is run over by the bikes has been a favorite quoted line every time we saw Prince Edward as "Teddy" on Westworld.

BTW, I found it strange that there are portals to Andalasia, yet Morgan had apparently never visited before - while Edward and Nancy could just pop back in whenever. I guess it's lame to nitpick a movie like this, but oh well.

We thought it was a fun follow-up. Nice to see Adams and Marsden didn't miss a beat in their return to their characters. We especially liked all the easter eggs to so many Disney properties. It's too bad they waited so long to do this, they could have easily done a couple of movies or even a limited run series in all this time.

I watched both movies yesterday. It had been years since I'd seen Enchanted. It is such a great movie. It was a fresh and subversive concept. It was funny, had awesome performances, memorable songs, and great on-location NYC filming.
Disenchanted just didn't really do much of anything for me. The story is OK I guess but the songs are forgettable.

This stunk. Everyone played their parts well, and it was nice to see Adams in the role again, but it wasn't funny. The songs were all forgettable, and there were too many of them.

If they had removed the fantasy elements (yes, half of the movie) and just showed her as a slightly bitter stepmother 15 years later, that would have made for an interesting movie.
