Man Bites Dog and Happiness are also clearly comedies, albeit dark ones. That's even how they're classified on IMDB.
Maybe you just don't get dark humor.
I also wouldn't object if someone placed American Beauty, Lolita, Network, or Brazil as a comedy, at least as a subgenre. I think all of those are funnier than most typical comedies.

I'm particularly baffled that Dr. Strangelove, largely considered one of the greatest comedies of all time (AFI ranks it as the third greatest comedy), would be on your list.

Yeah, I probably didn't have the best list there as several of those are dark comedies, and not just satire. But if I think about a bit, a dark comedy certainly falls into the broader category of comedy.
So my attempt to make a point was a big failure.

I really liked this movie (still in my Top 5 of the year), but I'm very surprised at the amount of buzz I've seen on entertainment websites saying the movie has a real chance to make noise at The Oscars, including the major categories like Best Pic, Best Director, and Best Actor.
Again, big fan of the movie, but I would be shocked if it won any of those. It just doesn't fit the conventional idea of an Oscar winner.

The film is not PC and it’s actually a take down of seemingly well meaning liberal whites. The stereotypical Oscar voter is basically like Kathryn Keener’s character.

Very good, well made film...but has no place in the Best Pic category. I really hope this and WW don't end up being nominated...

It's one of the most entertaining and interesting movies of the year. And unlike most crusty, period-piece nominees, it actually says something about the time we're living in. Why wouldn't it be considered for best picture?

Given that best picture is a 10 film category now, I think this makes the cut.

I don't like the idea that only a certain type of film has a "place" in regards to being nominated. I'd rather it be something fresh than something that's Oscar Bait.

While there have been movies that were likely nominated (and some winning) with some outside consideration of their box office/cultural significance (Titanic, LOTR, Avatar, etc) Get Out sits in 33rd place for this year's box office...Wonder Woman would be a better nominee if we're going by those standards.

I'd like to see it get a Best Picture nomination, it was absolutely one of the best movies of the year.

Yeah, I agree. I just DVR'd it on cable several weeks ago because I'd heard so much about it. I really enjoyed it. Felt like, for once, I got my money's worth out of having the HBO/Cinemax/Showtime subscriptions.
