Also, the MKC has keyless entry. She didn't need to get her key out of her purse... she just needed to touch the door handle. The fact that I knew this drove me crazy during the final scene.

This wasn't comedy, and it sure as hell wasn't really horror. I don't even know what Peele was trying to say here. Some white people make social situations awkward by pandering to blacks? Ok...

White brains are able to live forever in black bodies because they age better?

This movie could not find a tone and, worse, it spent so long building up to the "what's it all about?" that once viewers arrive there the sensation is utter deflation.

I love Key & Peele doing their comedy show but this just missed the mark by a country mile for me. I do not get all the praise.

I finally got around to watching this the other week and really liked it. Had a self-awareness about itself and a tone that stuck with me for days. I can see why it received the praise it did and deservedly so.

I liked the film, but it left me a little disappointed. I knew almost nothing about it before watching but guessed the reveal early on and was hoping it would take a different turn. Maybe my expectations were too high or maybe it was not original enough for me. Still a good film though.

I also prefer the original ending.

I’m no fucking millenial dude. The movie is pointing to the horrors of the millennial way of thinking that you don’t like. You should have loved it.

Let me know if I'm missing something. Seriously, I don't say that condescendingly. It felt like a weak Stepford Wives ripoff that only subverted horror tropes in that the black guy doesn't die first and the white girl isn't the final savior. But in terms of story, it didn't do anything surprising; it kept building to a conclusion that was obvious from the get-go and once it got there I was just bored.

Dude, I know. I wasn't calling you one. I meant that's what the film was aiming at. I didn't find it self-aware enough to be pointing a laughing finger at the millennials. And if it was, then why did Peele even make the movie? It wasn't very funny for a comedy. It wasn't remotely scary for a horror movie. Other than the low-hanging fruit of subverting standard racial characterization it didn't offer up anything worth all this acclaim.

Jesus, am I really agreeing with Armond White?

As a minority and having similar interactions with white girls and their rich "WASPY" families -- shit had me rolling inside. Then when the final motivations get revealed I was like, shit, no more white girls for me, yo!

It is one of the best films of the year, too.

More specifically...

Spoiler:
Isn't he shot by the cops?

Thematically I think it would have worked perfectly, but I think Peele said something along the lines of wanting to leave the audience with some semblance of hope in the end.

The alternate ending that was filmed is quite different. Here's a link to see it. It was on the extras of the DVD.

I think so. Yeah, that's why Peele did not use it after all.

This is one reason why I think the movie worked better as a comedy for me and failed as a horror film. True horror shouldn't be designed to give you a sense of hope. It should be designed to disturb the living shit out of you from beginning to end.

Can you imagine if "Night of the Living Dead" had ended with

Spoiler:
Duane Jones' character being rescued by the redneck posse and walking off into the sunset triumphantly before the end credits roll? It would still be a good movie, but wouldn't be anywhere near as shockingly grim or memorable.

It doesn't help that the "twist" is very similar to another movie...

Spoiler:

The film is a satire, not a horror film.

Uhm...as a Minority. I can tell you without doubt..THIS was a HORROR film.

Here's why...

1. In the Black community there is a belief/conspiracy theory that Missing Blacks are being subjected to organ trafficking. Often Wealthy Non-Black are the buyers. This is part of why there is little to no effort to find us when we're missing. Unlike when a pretty white girl is missing.

2. White Women have ALWAYS played a role in White Supremacy and the downfall/DEATH of many Black Men who indulge.

3. Getting to see that the so call "allies" in Racial Equality aren't always true to the cause. They hide their true attitudes under the mask.

Yes, and I just re-watched that film before seeing Get Out so that is probably why I guessed correctly and was disappointed.

That was the ending I was expecting when I first watched the film. It's the ending we should have got... IMO.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing. But that doesn’t refute that it’s a satire.

I, too, saw it as a cautionary tale about black men dating white women.

Never said it wasn't. Just not agreeing with your comment that this wasn't horror. To me, it's both.
