it's said that the 2019 version will lengthen 29 minutes in duration and add more plots. Is that true?

So do most people, but the truth is that nearly every scene has some changes made to it. Beauty and the Beast was treated similarly. A lot of enhancements to details that would “look better” in imax.

You read his complete review? Or are you talking about the one blurb?

Basic consensus seems to be the effects are great, but you’ve already seen this story, very little is changed.

AV Club destroys this film...pretty epic tear down. I get the feeling we got lucky with Aladdin because I am starting to let the meh reviews get to me and am now on the fence about seeing this in theaters.

This may explain why Deadline notes in one of their box office articles that some folks think it may not get to 160m+ on its opening weekend even though up until recently no one, and I do mean no one thought it would struggle to make bank. It would be a bit funny and a bit jarring for Disney if The Lion King does not outgross Aladdin both domestically and internationally.

Stuckman and Jeremy Jahns didn't like it saying it was unnecessary.

Yeah, the consensus so far is that it's visually stunning but offers nothing new over the original.

So, pretty much what everyone suspected from the beginning.

Would it be a contender for a Special Visual Effects Oscar? No animated movie has ever been nominated before (and I'm not sure if they are even eligible) but the effects here are comparable to those in a live action movie, right?

I love AVClub but Dowd's head is way up his own ass on most reviews lately. Alas he makes valid complaints.

I'll take the unpopular opinion that it's okay to watch a movie just for the visuals.

Hell, Gravity won 7 Oscars for being just that.

Um, that was the first critics reaction article that was posted. I was pointing out the difference on RT. And I said it "seems" they were blown away.

And the only place to watch it apparently for me. I can't seem to get past 15-30 minutes of it at home on DVD.
