It doesn't bother me or take me out of a film. That said, I do think it works better in comedies. It's funny to see a local Newsperson in a silly film.

So don't have any actors at all, just in case? Just puppets?

We had a local weatherman (Stormin' Norman) who got busted having gay sex in a public restroom. He disappeared from the airwaves immediately after. Unfortunately he never appeared in any movies.

I guess I'm arguing local TV personalities are more likely to have secret lives than actors by trade. Actors have more to lose if their images are shattered than normal blow joe who may be more likely to frequent local massage parlors.

I still like The Naked Gun series.

I was just revisiting the film Little Children. The use of narration by Will Lyman who is famous for doing PBS's Frontline was a brilliant stroke that made that film really unique.

The 1976 TV parody "Tunnel Vision" has both Ernie Anderson and Danny Dark, who did real network voiceovers in the 70s and 80s.

Now there was a fella with some interesting personal demons. Watched him for the better part of 20 years (and the other Detroit bigwigs; worth noting his longtime co-anchor Diana Lewis played a TV reporter in a couple of the Rocky movies). Kinda miss the era of "celebrity new anchors", but today's 24-hour, multi-platform cycle does have serious advantages.

Bonds did leave us with at least one amusing outtake session:
