So last night was a perfect example of why it's not worth going to the movies anymore. Our kids were spending yesterday with the grandparents and they offered to keep them overnight. Perfect timing, because we were itching to see Jason Bourne. I was pretty stoked because it was showing on the IMAX screen. So we get there and there are a group of about 6 teens sitting in a row and another group of 8 adults sitting in a different row. The first think that popped in my head were the teens were going to be talking and texting during the whole movie. NOPE. The fucking adults were acting like children. Sticking their arms up in the air and giving thumbs up in the middle of the movie because they liked a scene and the two guys on the opposite ends trying to shout stuff to each other, basically yelling over some of the action scenes. It was absolutely ridiculous. About 30 mins into the movie I said something to my wife, making sure they would hear the comment as well, and they toned it down from there, but still, who acts like that in a theater? Especially people in their 50s? I'll give it to the teens though, they were talking to each other through the previews, but I didn't hear a peep from them once the movie started.

I was at Bourne over the weekend and sat closer to the screen because cell phone use and the glowing screens are rampant these days.

Three teenage girls sit down to my left and proceed to play games and talk throughout the whole movie. I usually ask nicely once, then tell people to shut the fuck up and turn off their cellphones.

They continued to annoy me, so I left the theater to complain to an usher who said he would tell the manager. Of course, he never showed. The girls shuffled seats and girl that ended up closest to me continued to do the same.

Why the fuck would someone go to the movies to ignore the film on the screen?
A-holes, the lot of them. I wish I could say that Alamo Drafthouse is better, but these d-bags are starting to infiltrate there as well. Despite the warnings on the screen the management never does anything about it.

I would happily pay more for a ticket if the theater included ushers to dissuade people from talking/texting during movies. The closest theater to me that has ushers is, I believe, a little over an hour away. Which is way too far to drive for a movie. But it never fails I end up in a theater with people who would rather talk about their meat loaf recipes (groups of adults) or laugh about what happened in school that day (groups of teens) than watch the movie. If the previews end and there's only a few people in there who are acting fine, I feel like I've won the lottery.

At the New Beverly, an employee introduces the film, and gives you a stringent warning, if they see you on a phone you are escorted out.

Are phones really a problem anymore? It was a huge issue 5-7 years ago, but it seems to have waned(at least around here). I can't recall the last time I saw someone on their phone, especially talking. People are still on them pretty heavy during the previews but to me, it seems like society finally grew up a little bit in regards to turning them off/putting them away for the main feature.

Where I live they aren't a problem. People young and old are actually paying attention to the film and being respectful.

I see phones light up in front of me or next to me at full brightness in the middle of the show all the time. They usually don't even have the courtesy to hold them in their lap or something, they hold them right in front of their fucking faces so that everyone behind them can see. And it's not like they just got some emergency text, often they'll just sit there browsing for several minutes if no one says anything.

This morning at a 9:50 AM screening a phone rang, and the idiot didn't even bother to silence it. Just let it ring and ring until it went to voicemail

The bigger chain theaters just don't care. I can't remember the last time I even saw an employee come into the theater unless it was the credits and they were waiting to clean it.

I used to go to midnight movie openings all the time but I just can't handle it anymore. I get stressed out and angry fairly easily with some of the nonsense I have seen when a theater is packed. Now I usually wait 2-3 weeks for every movie and go when it's empty.

I see over 100 movies in the theater each year. Living in NYC, everything is a relaticely quick bike or subway ride away. The cost here is insane but using moviepass, pre purchased vouchers and other money saving strategies I average $6 to $7 per ticket. I see about a third or half of the movies by myself and the rest with my wife. She loves movies, but just not to the same extent that I do. We end up seeing almost everything we want to see, although the behavior of people in the theater means that we try to see movies when it's not too crowded. We never see anything on Friday or Saturday nights. NYC audiences are horrible, and we often have to complain about talkers (after the movie is over). The texting has gotten a little better lately but it still drives us nuts on a regular basis.
Also lots of people bringing babies and little kids to non-kids movies.
I'm an idiot and usually just sit and stew and stress myself out. I'm big and tall but I'm pretty mild-mannered and do not have a strong authoritative voice. I'd love to yell and tell people to shut up, but I don't have the voice for that and wouldn't sound very intimidating. Sometimes I do say something or more often my wife does and we usually just get an attitude and they end up talking more. If it's a group of people that's acting like jackasses there's no point.
My wife will sometimes go seek a manager but for me that's not an option because I don't want to miss any of the movie.

This seems to be a bigger issue than phones for me. Haven't any baby issues, but I do see kids at inappropriate movies. Sometimes they're well behaved but it still bugs me.
