Duvall is often a curmudgeon (one of the best actually), but I wouldn't consider him one in Lonesome Dove.

I happened to channel surf and come upon TCM today and there in the same scene were Lionel Barrymore and Edward Arnold yelling at each other, with Gabby Hayes looking on. But then Nelson Eddy came in and ruined it. The film was LET FREEDOM RING (1939).
