Anton Yelchin dead at age 27 (Star Trek, Terminator, Charlie Bartlett)

He was awesome in the movie Charlie Bartlett, and of course the new Star Trek movies. It sounds like it was a freak accident.
Horrible news as it’s been confirmed by Anton Yelchin‘s publicist that the 27-year-old actor was killed in a traffic accident this morning, according to Yahoo.
Beginning his acting career in 2000, Yelchin was probably known best to many audiences as Pavel Andreievich Chekov in the recent Star Trek films. However, to horror fans he was the title character in 2013’s Odd Thomas as well as Charley Brewster in the 2011 remake of Fright Night. Most recently, he appeared in the critically acclaimed thriller Green Room.
Yelchin was also going to voice the role of “Jim” in Guillermo del Toro’s Netflix original series “Trollhunters”. It’s unknown how much, if any, of his work was recorded.
We send our deepest condolences to his friends and family in this absolutely devastating time.

HOLY SHIT! I've been a fan of his since Huff. One of the best young actors around and solid in everything I saw him in. What a bummer.
So great in this year's Green Room too.

Yelchin's friends became alarmed because he was supposed to meet them hours earlier for a rehearsal. They went to his San Fernando Valley home at around 1 AM and found him pinned between his car and a brick mailbox, which was attached to a security gate.
Law enforcement tells us the engine was running when his body was discovered, and the car was in neutral. The driveway was on a fairly steep incline. It's unclear why he got out of the car.

Jesus Christ, that's horrible. I met him a few years ago and he couldn't have been nicer and more gracious about his success. What a crazy freak accident. So, so sad.

That's sad to hear. He was a great young actor.

If this was some regular dude, people would be making Darwin award jokes.

I am so shocked. I loved him in Odd Thomas and many other movies he had done. He was a good actor with a bright future. 2016 has been a horrible year.

Dang that's too bad. I only really knew him from the Abrams Trek films but I liked him as Chekov.

I liked him as Chekov - he really did a good job of both following how Walter Koenig played the character while making it his own at the same time.
The worst thing is that it sounds like he just forgot to set his parking brake. So avoidable.
So if there is a Star Trek 4 do they recast or just leave Chekov out?

Dammit. He was so young with such a promising future. I'm sure we'll get more details if there's more tell. I have friends in San Fernando police and fire.
I was really hoping this new cast would be around for quite a while intact. I doubt they will replace him for future movies. I think Chekov is dead for good. Replacing him with Lt. Arex would be somewhat within canon.

Wow, terrible news. I remember liking his role in Hearts in Atlantis, as well as a bit part as a kid magician (with one trick) on Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Just saw him as the magician kid (he was probably 15) on Curb Your Enthusiasm. Very sad. Too young.
Also, I fully expect to die in some similar way. Like I'm going to trip, smack my head on a shelf, and die alone.

Who would've thought that any of the original cast would outlive their replacements?

I really liked everything I saw him in. I just rewatched Alpha Dog the other day. He was very talented.

Too bad. I've liked him in most of his roles. He seems to fit those smaller independent films well.
The last thing I saw him in a few months ago was "5 to 7".
Lots of celebrity deaths this year.

I would be, but we don't know much about what actually happened. Darwin awards are given to people who've done something stupid that lead to their death. It's a freak accident, but that doesn't mean Yelchin was doing anything stupid that caused it and his death.
