Movie Talk (REVERSE) Sheep: PIXAR edition

Inspired by Abob Teff, I’ve decided to take my first stab at running a SHEEP game. Like him, I’d like to get at least 15 players. So, turn on your desk lamp and bounce your favorite yellow ball, because today we’re gonna tackle PIXAR.

https://a.dilcdn.com/bl/wp-content/u...ct16.14722.jpg

Intro for first time players
Spoiler:

(Reverse) Sheep is a game that is part Family Feud, part trivia game. The object of the game is to outwit other players through a series of questions that are usually united in theme. There are two types of questions.
The first, Sheep, is one where you try to think like everyone else and match their answers. The more people you match, the better you do. Let's say we have a game of six players (A through F). A Sheep question might be something like "Name a great color." Sheep questions never have right or wrong answers. Let's say our five players answered like this:
Players A, C, and E said "Blue"
Players B and D said "Green"
Player F said "Chartreuse"
Scoring in Sheep games is like golf: the lower your score, the better. The "Blue" players get -3 points (and the best answer). The "Green" players get -2 points. Player F did not match anyone and gets 0 points.
The second type of question, Reverse Sheep, is the exact opposite. You want to avoid matching other players. A Reverse Sheep question might be something like "Name a state on the Atlantic Coast." Reverse Sheep questions always have right or wrong answers. Let's say our players answered like this:
Players D and E said "Delaware"
Players F and B said "Maine"
Player C said "Texas"
Player A said "South Carolina"
The "Delaware" players get +2 points (a penalty, since you want to have a low score). The "Maine" players also get +2 points. Player C's answer might be debated among the players to see if it is considered correct or not. Wrong answers always score above the most common answer. You're always better off going for something obvious than for something obviously wrong.
That's the gist of it. Each person running a game adds little rules here and there but those are the basics.

General Rules
Spoiler:

The object of the game is to out-think everyone by picking answers to questions that are the most common (Sheep) or least common (Reverse Sheep), but still correct.
Example Sheep question: "Name a professional golfer." A good answer might be Tiger Woods and a bad answer might be Chichi Rodriguez.
Example Reverse Sheep question: "Name a play by Shakespeare." Romeo & Juliet might be a bad answer, but Two Gentlemen of Verona might be a good answer. (Unless everyone is trying to go as obscure as possible).
Scores are tallied according to the number of players answering that question. Sheep answers are tallied as negative. Reverse Sheep answers are tallied as positive. The lowest score wins.
There is no such thing as wrong answer for a Sheep question.
Wrong answers in Reverse Sheep are scored two points above the most common answer.
You may not cheat by using Google, Wikipedia, etc. Use only what's in your head.
Please send in your answers to me via PM. Place only one answer per line, without numbers, set info, or the question itself. Add {sd} to the end of the answer, not the beginning. Those who do not do this will be penalized 10 points right off the bat.
Note: Be creative with your answers, but don't be stupid.
Sheep questions are marked by an S:, Reverse Sheep questions are marked by an R:.

Game-Specific Rules
Only previously-released PIXAR movies, and the soon-to-be released FINDING DORY are eligible for answers. No other announced-but-not-yet-released PIXAR movies will be acceptable answers, and PIXAR SHORTS are ineligible as well.

Make sure you are specific in your answers (provide everything I need to know what answer you are providing – i.e., the actor, character, film, etc.). Vague answers with multiple interpretations will receive a 5 point penalty.

Unique Bonus: Reverse Sheep questions will generate additional bonus (negative) points according to the following:
  • 1 Unique is awarded -20
  • 2 Uniques are awarded -15 each
  • 3 Uniques are awarded -10 each
  • 4 Uniques are awarded -5 each
  • 5+ Uniques are awarded -1 each

Slam Dunks {sd} Players have the power of multipliers in their hands. Each player is given five (5) Slam Dunks ({sd}) which they use by adding {sd} to the end of their answer. Your Slam Dunks have different effects depending on the question you use it on:
  • In Sheep questions, the {sd} adds 1 to the Multiplier.
  • In Reverse Sheep questions, you can use your {sd} to turn the question into a sheep question for you. However, if your answer is wrong, it does nothing.
  • Slam dunks cannot be stacked. Use one per question only or else they will be discarded. You cannot use two slam dunks to turn a Reverse into a Sheep and then slam dunk those sheep answers.

And another reminder: Please send in your answers to me via PM. Place only one answer per line, without numbers or the question itself. Do not forget your {sd}. Sometimes I notice and ask the player to re-send, and sometimes I don't, so to make things fair, if you forget to include them I won't be reminding you.

Re: Movie Talk (REVERSE) Sheep: PIXAR edition

Lots of questions say "name" a character. Do we have to know the names? (encouraging IMDb use) or is a clear identification enough?

A clear description is enough.

I'm assuming this is intended to be feature-length films only, but I'll ask -- are shorts eligible?

PS -- thank you and good luck!

brainee -- don't let this stop you from running your sci-fi game later this month! Looking forward to it!

Maybe not the right thread, but I guess that brings me to some questions I have on "Sheepmaster eitiquette" ... I know these will all be opinions, but:

How long should a Sheep game go? How long should you allow for answers to be submitted? How many answers per day should a Sheepmaster post/how many days should the answers be drawn out?

Answers submitted. I hope everyone gets #9 correct. Though, I'm not ashamed to admit that I can recall nearly crying at a scene in 2 different Pixar movies.

I don't think the reveal should take more than 2 days if you can help it.

Let's refrain from using the shorts. Which means devilshalo needs to change one of his answers.

So far I've received answers from:
A-aron
Count Dooku
Crocker Jarmen
DaveNinja
Devilshalo
Kenbuzz
Majorjoe23
Orangecrush
Wishbone

I'd like to get at least 10 players before I start scoring. Would actually like to start posting results tomorrow.

Unless it's a reverse, he doesn't necessarily need to change his answer, it just might not be a very good answer.

True, but now that shorts are verboten, I think he deserves a chance to change his answer.

The Sheep games work best over a 1 or 2 day period during times when people are likely to be able to comment. Post a few questions in the morning, some at lunch, some in the afternoon or evening to allow for discussion to happen.

It shouldn't take more than two days to post everything.

Never post on a weekend.

Leave the games up at least a week, with a weekend in there for the very busy to send in their answers.

Always extend the game if people ask for more time for answers. An extra day or two doesn't hurt if it brings in 5 or more players.

Re: Movie Talk (REVERSE) Sheep: PIXAR edition

Will try to send answers later today.

Length of a game depends on the complexity of the game and the available time of the Sheepmaster.

A game of 20 questions generally takes me three days because I can't devote a whole day to it. Pictures, spoiler tags, and a wide variety of answers will take more time. Other people have reeled off complete games in one day.

I usually try to reveal answers between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Pacific time. I'm fine if a SM reveals in the evenings or on the weekends--especially if the alternative is no game at all--but they just need to realize that player interaction will be minimal during that time. I myself don't like to run games in a void so I try to stick to peak traffic times.

There were a couple games (fantasy and Saturday morning cartoons) that ran while I was out of town so I followed on my phone but didn't comment much. I always felt bad about that.

In general, the more players the better so I like to allow a number of days for people to send answers. But more players also makes for more work for the SM so it's reasonable to specify a limit.

Terrible (and I truly mean that) answers submitted. Despite seeing all the Pixar movies, my memory is fuzzy on the details on many of them. What the hell. All I have to lose is this game ... and my time ... and my pride :(

Yes ... I still haven't completely gotten over your lack of participation in my fantasy sheep game :(

:D But seriously, if you've played sheep you know the kinds of things that work. No more than 2-3 days. Enough time for player comments ... not so much that people get impatient (though everyone understands that real-life interferes with sheep plans). As Abob I think discovered, it can help to do some prep-work before starting the answer reveals (like putting together some images/gifs/videos and having a handle on the scoring). It's not essential, and you always want to be ready to do things on the fly. But it's a timesaver.

Nothing wrong with being open to submissions longer though. The more players the better. And some people check the forums less frequently than others (especially during vacation/holiday times).

Oh, I hope no one interpreted my comment about whether I'll run a sci-fi sheep game or not as trying to discourage other games. It just is what it is. I have a bunch of questions written and I'll have the time for the last week and a half of the month. If enough people will want to play it, I'll run it (game announcement and question posting in a week, results and reveals a few days later). I guess if people are open to evening (Eastern time) reveals I can do it later in the year. Though there's a questions about Independence Day that I was kind of hoping to use (and wouldn't be as fun to use after July 4th). :D
