This is getting a lot of praise.

Looks like PTA knocked another one out of the park.

Can't wait to see it.

This will be playing in 70mm at Dome at ArcLight in Hollywood. A friend already saw last week and said it was good -- but felt that some aspects of the humor were forced.

the film primarily reaffirms Anderson’s own skill at hand-crafting exquisitely conflicting interior and external worlds.

Yawn. How does PTA come up with such a dull story and setting for a movie, he knows the job is to entertain, right?

The first 4 films he made (Hard Eight, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and Punch Drunk Love) were great. His last 4 (There Will Be Blood, The Master, Inherent Vice, and now Phantom Thread) started a downward trend he can't seem to get out of. He's no longer on my list of "must watch" directors.

At least he'll always have art house cinema snobs like Inri and the newbie one post above who'll eat up any pretentious dreck he makes.

I didn't care for Inherent Vice at all, and I don't think Punch-Drunk Love is very good either. But I have greatly enjoyed all of his other films.

I'm just pissed that this doesn't open wide until January 19.

I'm all for a period movie, but the ads for this look so boring.

Agreed.

Fun story... A few years back, I was at Best Buy itching to buy something. I narrowed it down to two movies I hadn't seen: Inherent Vice and Chappie.

I chose Chappie.

Never did get around to seeing Inherent Vice, though.

Re: Phantom Thread (2017, Paul Thomas Anderson) S: Daniel Day-Lewis, Vicky Krieps

Saw it last night. Loved it! Yes, far better than Inherent Vice (which I think is PTA's only miss-step).

Not much to say except that it was far more accessible than I thought it was going to be, more accessible than most, if not all, of his other movies. I can safely recommend it to my parents!

I'm pretty sure Woodcock was on the spectrum, if not fully autistic, at least a bit of the asperger.

The Master, Inherent Vice and Phantom Thread all have a similar thinness of concept to them; they feel like first drafts that haven't been fleshed out. DDL elevates Phantom Thread and by default it's better than Inherent Vice but it's not fully satisfying. Seems like PTA blew his wad with There Will Be Blood.

Spoiler:
Were we supposed to infer his character was closeted? Everything about his character screamed gay. PTA listed a half dozen inspirations for the character - and they were all gay.

Just saw where this is being released for purchase on iTunes and Amazon this Friday. Pretty quick turnaround, kind of surprised me.

Where'd you see that? The only date I've seen has been March 27th for the BD.

Neat! For whatever reason I couldn't find the streaming page for that on Amazon. It must have not gotten the oscar bump it was hoping for.
