Oh, I'm sorry, am I killing your buzz for a new PTA movie?
I was responding to people who were directly responding to me, seems like a valid reason to post in the thread. Just put me on ignore if it bothers you so much.

I'm sure a film set in the world of fashion in the 50's is gonna be more than just the dollars and cents of fashion. I mean would you call There Will Be Blood a movie about Oil prospecting? I can't imagine you were sold on the film because it was about oil. Don't you think the film digs deeper than that? Fashion doesn't particularly interest me either, but something tells me the subtext of the film isn't gonna be the deep meaning of a three piece suit.
I'm not a big fan of There Will Be Blood. I think it's a well made movie, and I understand that at its core it's not an "oil prospecting movie", it's a movie about a man who's greed and selfishness leads to his downfall...but at the same time, I think the film's setting/subject matter plays a role in how I feel about it overall.

Re: Untitled P.T. Anderson 1950s Fashion Film - S: Daniel Day Lewis

Focus Features has nabbed worldwide rights to a new drama reuniting the “There Will Be Blood” team of Paul Thomas Anderson and Daniel Day-Lewis, Variety has confirmed.

The indie label will finance the $35 million production and is looking to release the picture in 2017. It’s a coup for the newly reconstituted division, which underwent a major overhaul earlier this spring that brought in new management and returned the brand to a familiar mandate — making character-driven fare and prestige productions.

Seems like a risk to go after a P.T. Anderson flick for Focus, but who knows, maybe they read the script and thought it'd find an audience.

Anderson's highest grossing flick thus far is There Will Be Blood ($40m domestic, $76.2m worldwide).

When 5 posts out of 28 knock an unseen, untitled, and hasn't even started filming movie it certainly seems like a troll.

I haven't seen Inherent Vice yet, but like most his stuff. Especially Magnolia. Subject matter doesn't sound too appealing, but will give it a go probably on video...

Rumor has it that in addition to writing & directing, PTA will also be the cinematographer.

Production Begins on Untitled Paul Thomas Anderson Fashion Project!

Woohoo! Always excited for another PTA film.

However, not sure if I like the idea of him being the cinematographer (if true). Having great ideas for all the elements of a films cinematography is one thing - but to successfully execute it is a different matter.

PTA is about the only director that will get me to a theater these days. I did not care for Inherent Vice much. It looked good, but it didn't work for me at all.

The Master continues to get better with each viewing.

I like it when PTA has a big ensemble, but this apparently won't be that.

Day-Lewis waking up in his cabin like: "Man, it's been awhile since I won an Oscar!"

Really looking forward to this, even though fashion isn't my thing.

Damn. Halfway through October and still not even a teaser trailer for this film. The cigs and red vines site said on Friday that the film will indeed be called Phantom Thread.

Always thought that was just a working title that would be changed.

<iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/xNsiQMeSvMk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Set in the glamour of 1950’s post-war London, renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) and his sister Cyril (Lesley Manville) are at the center of British fashion, dressing royalty, movie stars, heiresses, socialites, debutants and dames with the distinct style of The House of Woodcock. Women come and go through Woodcock’s life, providing the confirmed bachelor with inspiration and companionship, until he comes across a young, strong-willed woman, Alma (Vicky Krieps), who soon becomes a fixture in his life as his muse and lover. Once controlled and planned, he finds his carefully tailored life disrupted by love. With his latest film, Paul Thomas Anderson paints an illuminating portrait both of an artist on a creative journey, and the women who keep his world running. Phantom Thread is Paul Thomas Anderson’s eighth movie, and his second collaboration with Daniel Day-Lewis.

Man, I don't know. It's impossible for PTA or DDL to make a bad movie, but this trailer did nothing for me (outside of the excitement in seeing DDL in anything once again). This is supposedly his final performance as well. I hope it's good.

On the contrary, I think that looks spectacular. Everything simmering under the surface. It actually reminds me of another Daniel Day-Lewis film, The Age of Innocence (which I think is severely underrated).

That is what I thought of too when watching the trailer.

A classy 50 Shades of Grey, perhaps?

Fuck yeah! Love the CGI and the 'splosions!

It's PTA, so I'll watch regardless.

It looks interesting. Definitely an under-the-surface type film.
It reminds me of a Merchant-Ivory production (not just because it's based in England either).

I love that PTA keeps venturing into different territories instead of recycling the same stuff.

As someone who loved both The Master and Inherent Vice, I'm certainly looking forward to this.

I hope all the underlying tension explodes with DDL screaming "I'VE ABANDONED MY CHILD".

Totally agree. It actually looks kind of dull to me, and I'd imagine the run time is 150 minutes.

But it's Day-Lewis, and I will watch anything he is in. I didn't care for Inherent Vice, but PTA has long been one of the my favorite directors.

Count me in as someone who doesn't always "love" PTA's films, but is always fascinated to see them because you know you will get something challenging. Just a handful of directors in that class these days, and even fewer of them working out of the mainstream Hollywood studio system... PTA, Lynch, the Coen Brothers, Aronofsky, maybe Fincher, maybe Scorsese to some degree still... and not too many others that I can think of.

I love DDL, but I can't stomach another TWBB (or most PTA movies). Count me in for a good HBO showing.
