Same here. I've enjoyed all of Craig's Bond films so far. Spectre left a bit to be desired but I thought it was still enjoyable.

Craig is my least favorite Bond. I really hope he walks away, especially since he seems to hate the role.

That sort of deal eschews points. That's what RDJ took with his Civil War payday.

The thing is : unlike throwing money at Tom Cruise or Leo to get your film a big opening, you're not trying to lure Daniel Craig away from any other significant project. If he turns this down, I doubt he ever sees even a $10M paycheck offer again (outside of the inevitable Bond spoof maybe). If he turns that down, then he just loathes the character.
And I admit, it was a bit of a bummer watching somebody play Bond who you know detests the role so much, even if he's still pretty good at it.

re: Bond 25 (2020, D: Fukunaga) -- News, rumors, etc.

As highly dubious rumors are flying around at the moment suggesting that Daniel Craig is being offered $150 million to return for two more James Bond films (if they are true, I can only imagine would be what he might earn on backend if the films make a particular amount of money), Christoph Waltz, who played classic villain Ernst Blofeld in “Spectre,” is reminding everyone that much about the future of the franchise remains a question mark.

“Right now, nobody even knows which studio will produce the next and if Daniel will return. All of that is filed under ‘carry on,’ ” he told German magazine Zeit-Magazin Mann (via CommanderBond).

However, if Craig agrees to play 007 again and if Waltz gets another crack at the villain, he’d welcome the opportunity, because he doesn’t think he got it right the first time out.

“I cannot claim that I’ve really nailed Blofeld. Overall, it held water and was okay. But it wasn’t what I’ve been looking for. I was searching for more inspiration,” the actor said, in what sounds like a slight dig at Sam Mendes.

But again, don’t count on Waltz’s Blofeld returning, because right now everything is up in the air. “I don’t know about that. Nobody knows. It wasn’t talked about, except in the press,” Waltz said about reprising his part.

In summary, despite all the rumors swirling at the moment, the status of the next James Bond movie is currently: \_(ツ)_/

I don't think that he loathes the character. If he loathes anything, it's either the process of actually making the movies themselves or all the ancillary responsibilities of "being Bond." Or some combination of those two.

Craig is my favorite Bond, so i'd love to see him back. Which is funny since I haven't been fond of the last 2 movies.

re: Bond 25 (2020, D: Fukunaga) -- News, rumors, etc.

Its probably the same thing Connery went through. Everyone sees them as that character and no matter what other movies they appear in they can never shake the character. There are a number of character like it that can overshadow an actor unless he ha serious acting chops. I think Daniel Craig is a good actor, but his turn in Spectre was awful. The movie bored the hell out of me. Shame as i think that both Casino Royale and Skyfall are two of the strongest Bond movies ever made. Waltz is a great actor, but his Blofeld was really poor.

I am happy to see Craig do a couple more Bonds, but would prefer someone else other than Mendes and it needs a stronger storyline this time around. I would say even attempt a two part movie. I know they kinda tried this with Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, with a strong first parter and a weak second half, but i think its worth taking another stab at.

In the long run i would love to see Fassbender or Hiddleston take over the role. People have been waving the flag for Idris Elba, but that guy can be very pissy about roles he takes (complaining about re-shoots on Thor: Dark World), so whilst i think he is a good actor, i just think he would be bored by the whole thing two movies in and then bitch and moan about it.

Funny how this is the same song and dance after every Bond movie. I can't think of any other franchise that makes money with so much uncertainty. Which studio, actor, budget, release dates, etc etc. Seems like its always a shit show before they yell action.

It's the process from what I've read. From the moment they did that high profile announcement of Spectre, every moment of filming, and the press he had to do the entire time as well as after it was released just took a toll on him. I can easily see why he said the stuff he did. I don't think he hates the character at all, it's just the non-stop speculation and talk and physical aspect of filming these gets tiring.

If Craig doesn't go for the rumored jackpot Hiddleston is even more available since he broke up with Taylor Swift. There was a rumor their romance took him out of the running. Don't ask me why, the British are strange

If he turns down this offer, he must REALLY hate making these movies.

I've got to think on some level, when you're already incredibly rich, that the millions of dollars aren't as persuasive and tempting as they would be to an average Joe.

He's still got Blomkvist in The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest unless that ship has already sailed.

It's pretty much fucking dead for that series. Fuck. I would have love to see more of that world by Fincher and was totally game to see a change cuz it did get kind of iffy in those 2.

There's also ego involved. This lets him claim to be the highest paid actor.

I highly doubt that offer is really what is real. After the last Bond let everyone down it would be foolish to pay him that much.

It's a fortuneto pay any actor, but really it's not that crazy -- Skyfall made $1.1B Worldwide.

We are not talking about Skyfall the last Bond movie made Worldwide: $880,674,609

Right now if you are not a superhero or kids continuation/sequel good luck. Look at this summer for example. A Bond movie will not achieve Skyfall type of money again.

What they need to do is get new writers. Those same 2 guys that have been around forever can't be the end all of screenwriting. Spectre had some truly genius moments in there but holy fuck did it get stupid in there too.

$880M is nothing to sneeze at. And that's with a crappy script. Put a sufficiently-motivated Craig together with another director and a better script and you might have another huge hit.

If their actuaries got together and figured the difference between a Craig Bond film and a Hiddleston Bond film is, let's say $300M Worldwide, then paying the star $75M maybe makes some sense.

Ignoring the fact that Bond is more or less a superhero in his own right, what exactly has changed so fundamentally in the last 4 years that a Bond movie can't/won't reach $1.1 billion?

Pretty much the whole movie going public??? You are only as good as your last movie. If this summer has shown anything it is becoming tired of the same old thing.

But you already said that the only movies with a chance to hit that number are superheroes and sequels, i.e. the same old thing. Somehow I don't think audiences were willing to get behind the 23rd installment in a franchise, but decided to draw the line at the 24th. If they make a good Bond movie, people will go see it.

Looks like Daniel Craig has changed his position on Bond.
